davyou5 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Hello everyone , After a very long Winter out here, and many rain storms there after. I was finally able to complete the Ferrari Daytona Spyder for my Miami Vice Project. This is from Revell's Retooled Miami Vice kit 1/24 Scale, as a type of aniversary with the 2005 Miami Vice movie. Just like the original 1/24 scale kit (1980's), this was modeled after the Real Ferrari Daytona Spyder, and not the McBurnie Kit car/s as shown on the Television series. As an Amateur Modeler with very little modification experience I think this car came out great.. Still I have much to learn, especially with spray painting, but I think I got down pat. Paints: - Testors Black - Testors Gloss Laquer - Tamiya Skin color - Testors Tan - Testors Amber - Testors Turnsignal Yellow - Testors Brown - Testors Primer Micellaneous items Used: - Chrome Metal Foil - Crazy Foam - Testor's Putty - Parts from other Kits. A few Exterior Photo's A few Interior Shots. And Finally Under The Glass . As for the modification, I had to cut and place the Mufflers closer together inside and above the Rear Suspension, I also cut a couple of pieces of sprue in order to get the look of the Exhaust to point at I believe a 45 degree angle as seen on the Show, but even what I have now is probably not too accurate (Picture of that will come later).. This was not fun nor was it that easy to accomplish, but it was done. And no I am not going to take a picture of the Chasis as it is not exactly a pretty sight to see... On the kit the original Daytona Spyder Head Rest's were thin, on the show it was seen a a bit thicker as a backing, Due to using the C3 Corvette as the car to kit out in this fashion. And since I ruined a couple of bodies I did have spare head rest's in which I used Testors putty to put together and sand out smooth.. I did get a bit of experience from that. As seen on the Interior Shots It now looks as though there is some backing, it's close but still not accurate. And since I ruined a Tamiya Testarossa kit, I did have spare Ferrari Emblems to use on this car too, as seen on both the Front and the Steering wheel. Speaking of the Steering wheel, I did cut out a piece of a "For Sale" sign and glued it on to give it the Triangle look in the Center of the wheel. If I had more Skill, Tools, and Necessary parts, I would have cut out the Head light covers on the body and replaced them with Double headlights from some other kit and a piece of ether clear plastic or Plexiglass as it is shown also on the Television Series, But I am still lacking in some of these area's.. Still thanks to this community, I am learning a great deal and I am seeing much improvement to my building skills, as well as the Motivation to continue. Thanks Guys and Gals .
KENNEDYJR Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 It looks ready to go chase down some lowlifes to the tune of some moody 80's music. Well done.
CEKPETHO BCE Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I JUST started on the same exact kit. I was going to make it into an actual Ferrari Daytona, but the what appears to be a chevy V8 engine kinda threw me off. Good job by the way.

I forgot to mention that the Kit had a C3 Corvette Engine (And I think the chasis too ) But if you wanted to make the Car a Real Daytona Spyder, and if I remember Correctly, I do believe that Tamiya has a Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4 Kit in which you could swap out the Engine and Chasis(if needed ). Thanks for the Comment .
