mnwildpunk Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I just got an airbrush the other day and already I don't like those cans of compressed air . Do you guys have any thoughts and suggestions on a small quiet compressor that a person could use? Keep in mind I live in an apartment so I stress the word quiet.

sportandmiah Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Harbor Freight sells an airbrush compressor for about 70 bucks and is quiet from what I've read.
RyanSilva Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200354872_200354872 Great compressor for the price, and it is quiet. The tank will help with ripples, that you would normally get with a tankless air compressor.

When it starts - it doesn't make me jump. It doesn't run constantly due to the tank. I don't have to turn the TV up. It is much quieter than my dehumidifier. Its about as loud as an refrigerator compressor. Hope this helps

I have the very same compressor here in England, I can do nothing but recommend it, it's pretty quite and cuts in and out when needed, for the price I don't think you can do better.

I have the Harbor Fright version and it is a good unit... but these are not recommended for use under 30 psi....I use mine for Auto Air, which requires 55 psi as it is water based... I have a Harbor tankless version and it gives me 22 psi after a burst, with my 2 stage A/B I clear the pressure then I can pull back for my color or clear and no pulsation. sjordan2 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) Can these be reduced in pressure by using a rheostat-operated (dimmer control) power strip, like using a corded drill? Edited July 8, 2011 by sjordan2
MikeMc Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Can these be reduced in pressure by using a rheostat-operated (dimmer control) power strip, like using a corded drill? Not the issue here Skip. What the deal with this unit is the power on switch for the compressor that is operated by a simple switch..on at 30 off at 60.(not adjustable) By shooting at a lower pressure it seems to pulsate and not give true consistant pressure....until you go over 30 psi.....works great. Thats why I have two compressors...I only use this for Auto Air paints now.
