I'm building the MPC 1970 Coronet (new tooling) and the instructions say to cut or file the glass 1/16th of an inch under the side windows. How can I even do that?

First, tape the "glass" on both sides to prevent scratching it in the wrong place then place some fairly rough sand paper on a piece of wood or a sanding block and carefully sand away 1/16" finish up with some finer grits of sand paper to smooth the edge out and your done!

i glue down a half-sheet of 120 grit to a plate of glass (won't flex out of square) and set that on the workbench top. tape the plastic "glass" as mentioned, and slowly slide the piece back and forth until you've removed the required amount. if glass seems to hazardous, get a large floor tile from the bargain bin at Home Depot and us that. the trick is to have a known flat surface to work from. i use this trick to modify wheels, sand tires, square parts up....

i looked at the bottom of the kit box and saw what i thought was half of the RR kit.... didn't realize i was right!

When I did mine I just got a large file ,, like you'd use to sharpen a mower blade and had at it. It's really not rocket surgery.

Well, it's either not rocket science... or not brain surgery.

But it's definitely not "rocket surgery!" :)

You can't say that!

Oh, what. That doesn't apply to this category.

So, I guess you can say that.

Dis- away!

:o

What is rocket surgery, anyway? Or brain science?

Thanks for the help and ideas, but when I test fitted the glass to the bodyit fit perfectly, no cutting needed. Mark was right, apparently it was part of the "old" instructions and wasn't really a necessary step (of course I'm not putting in the side windows, that might have something to do with it, dunno.).

CORRECTION: It DOES make a difference. The interior tub doesn't fit properly at the front unless the glass is shaved. So, rather than doing that, I cut 1/16th off the tub, sanded it, and repainted it. Now it sits flush and fine. Good thing I test fitted it before gluing it in!
