The Modeling Hermit Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 From what I can find, Ford's L series trucks were gas powered, yet I can remember a local lumber yard having one that was gas powered back in the early to mid seventies. It didn't have the filter on the right side of the hood, and there was no stack. Other than that, it looked just like the diesel units. Is my memory wacky, or did some L series escape with gas engines?
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Some Ls did leave the factory as gas powered trucks. Sears Canada had some. Loose the filer on the right side of the hood and they had grass burner exhausts. Might have been a little scoop on the top of the hood.
Guest Markus355 Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 our airport has one with a 460 in it as a cargo tug
mackinac359 Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 They indeed were available with gas engines. No hood air cleaner intake and typically full cab running boards instead of the large diesel tanks on both sides. I've seen them with one gas tank on the right, or left or aft of the cab. They all had under frame exhaust. Tim
Aaronw Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Based on old sales brochures I've seen they were offered with the same gas engines as the Ford F and C series 330, 361, 391, 401, 477 and 534. I assume in the later 80s they were available with the 390 and 460 when Ford dropped the older engines.
