crowe-t Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 When using a synthetic lacquer paint on a car body with decals applied, can a clear synthetic lacquer be applied over the decals to seal them? What about clear synthetic lacquer applied over ALPS printed decals?
Scale-Master Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I can be, but it could also attack the decals. Best bet is to test. Hopefully you have an extra decal or two rom that sheet you can apply to something else and test spray over. As for over ALPS, it depends on what clear was applied over the printed images. Again, testing on something you don't need is the safest approach.
crowe-t Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Do you think If acrylic is applied over the decals(before application) will that help protect them from a synthetic lacquer clear coating?
scalenut Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 microscale decal film will protect the decals from lacquers... If you are using alps decals ,treat them with decal film ...it's ultra thin, you won't even notice it
crowe-t Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 I've used Microscale liquid decal film on decals but not with a lacquer top coat. I assume once the clear lacquer is cured it won't be able to affect the decals.
