txdieseldog Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 (edited) Been on vacation, or at work, or military reserve duty all summer! Finally getting to work on some stuff. Gonna get this one started and post pics tomorrow. Didn't get time to take em tonight. Building a DROM using the AMT MACK Cruise Liner. Have extended the frame and have a picture from Martin Phippard's Truck picture collection of a Frieght Liner Dual Drive as inspiration. http://www.hankstruc...ms/file0011.jpg Wish me luck. mackinac359 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Wow! That's quite the project you've chosen. Tim
Jim B Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 This is an ambitious project. Should be interesting.
txdieseldog Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 Thanks guys! As soon as I get off work, I need to put some boards on my porch then I should be able to get WIP pics. I think I'm going to keep it fairly simple though. Gonna leave the floater axle off the rear trailer. I already have everything else on hand. Barry
txdieseldog Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 In regards to this build......would anyone happen to have the two end caps from an AMT tanker? Maybe one that got beat up somehow? I have two new ones, of course in good shape being new and all, and one older one that is still good. Would rather not butcher a good one unless I have too. Barry
txdieseldog Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 OK. As promised......a few WIP pics. Frame is lengthened and getting the suspension on in prep for paint. Should have a decent size DROM tank to fit on that frame. Will try and update as often as possible. Thanks for looking. Barry
scale trucker Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 wow that will be bad sssssss.will follow this one..
txdieseldog Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) The chassis is finally built. Primer tonight and pics will be posted. Stretched the frame about 3". Added a self steer lift axle to accommadate the frame weight. The DROM tank is sized and ready for piping. Now working on the plans for the "A" trailer. Trying to decide on 3 axle with a 5th wheel on back of a full length trailer, or leave the frame the same length with 2 axles and shorten the rear of the tank. Any suggestions? Didn't get to primer, but did get the pics on. need to put gussets on the sides of the tank so it doesn't look so high and then put in the piping as mentioned. I added a framework under it to house the pipes and it puts it almost to the same level as the trailers. Edited October 25, 2011 by txdieseldog
txdieseldog Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Was about to cancel this post with the fit it was giving me to get the 2 pics on......but we got it worked out. Gotta cover a volleyball game tonight. Might get it primered depending on when the game ends.
Truck parts Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Barry, Looking good on what you have done so far. Do you still need the tank ends? I may have a set . I will check ,and let you know.
txdieseldog Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 I dont need them....but I could put them to use. Justin had a pair that we were working on a trade. But I do lousy with trades! I tend to be a parts horder. (I'll get to that/might need it some day!) I think Justin's tired of me not making up my mind. Don't blame him either.
txdieseldog Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Update for ya. Got my frame completed and primer on it. It is sitting in front of my GMC Astro WIP listed on another thread. Edited November 29, 2011 by txdieseldog
