ultraliner13 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 This is my first rescue of a truck kit. I bought this truck in bad condition and with a few spare parts I had I rebuilt the truck to this condition. I hope this is truck meets the grade. Cheers John
SpreadAxle Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I haven't seen you here in awhile John. Nice Pete there.
mackinac359 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Looks good! Sometimes a glue-bomb rebuild turns into a tremendous under taking. You always (ALWAYS) discover something you didn't expect (just like a 1:1 restoration). A broken frame rail, snapped axle, missing part, etc. Tim
SpreadAxle Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I'm discovering that as I redo my first glue bomb. One of the kits going into my "penthouse" Freightliner is one of those glue bombs with what seems like 40 thick coats of paint, and the parts were glue bombed with crooked installations of parts afterwards.
Casey429 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I've saved a glue bomb or two. Although it's never easy, the end result is (usually) worth it. The hardest part is definitley disassembly and clean up, but that's usually the worst of it. This ones definitley a keeper, nice rescue.
Old Albion Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 John, This truck looks great, I,ve never restored a glue bomb before but I bought a partially built AMT Kenworth that was missing the cab and hood for spare parts. Just trying to remove the bits from the frame that I wanted was a task in itself. Makes me more appreciate the work you and others have done on restorations. Great Work!!
SpreadAxle Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I definately have an appreciation for the glue bomb restorations now as I restore the Autocar. Although I didn't glue bomb it, removing certain parts to repaint was challenging as far as trying to be gentle and not break them. I really understand it as I work on my cabover Freightliner. It makes me respect the work I see here that much more.
