I'm building a 66 -67 or so Cobra 427 ( the big mean one ) The box art shows a black car but I'm not doing the black car I'm going to be doin it in the color they looks best in ..... Blue. Most of what I find shows the seats black whats gettin me is the dash and interior tub itself. I've seen these be done in black too but the cars I've seen in person are not real Cobras. Should the dash and tub be black also or should they be body color ??

The dash is covered with black everflex. There is black carpet on the unpainted aluminium floor and the door cards are black with black pockets. Everything else inside is painted a not quite flat black. This is what it was like in my unrestored 1966 427SC. I don't know whether the street cars were a little better appointed.

Christian Thanks for the info. Can't get any better than coming from an owner of an Actual Cobra. Ya don't happen to have a pic of the car do ya ??

Unfortunately I had to sell it in 1989. Or maybe not so unfortunately when I think of it. There could still be photos somewhere, I'll see if I find them.

But this picture shows an interior which is exactly like the one in my car:

Minus Mr. Shelby's signature on the glovebox lid though.

Ohh!!! thats a perfect pic right color body an all Thanks !! Got one other question The cover over the passenger seat ... Black like the interior ?? The kit I'm building has the hardtop and that cover so I'm gonna do up both parts for a bit of display options

The tonneau cover? Mine didn't have it, but all I've seen were black.

Mine didn't have any top, hard or soft.

I know that 427 Cobras were available with at least one other interior colour than black - tan. Only the seats and door cards were tan, the rest was as black as in the black interiors.

BTW, I changed the pic for one that resembles the one I had even closer. It gives you the correct impressin of the material they used for the dashboard and it shows the areas of body paint being visible around the doors. Also note the European Ford turn signal switch. Good old Lucas...

I think (not 100% sure) the only change they ever did to the dashboard was shove the toggle switches further to the right and in exchange the knobs closer to the driver to meet some federal mandate. Safety, you know.

Only two 427 cobras left the factory with interior colors other than black, and those were CSX3272 which was a street car with blue interior, and CSX3336 also a street car with Red interior. No Competition 427s or 427S/C cars left the factory with anything but black interiors. in all cobras the dash was still black.

here is what a 427S/C interior should look like...

Notice the dual batteries behind the passenger seat. The street cobra has a single battery infront of the passenger footbox in the engine compartment.

here is a 427 Street Cobra interior... notice the defroster vents on the cowl and the glovebox door.

What Cobra csx# did you own? I might have a picture of it.
