martinfan5 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 On my way to doing all the trans am from the smokey and the bandit movies, so here is the trans am from part 3. I am using a MPC 83 Firebird kit, got it off of evilbay still factory sealed. The kit is molded in red, so looks like I have a lot of priming to do. One nice thing about two in one kits like this is you get the extra body parts which are perfect for testing out paint and primer on them. I do have a question for you guys, I have to paint the lower rocker panels gold, whats the best process of doing that?
eyner91camaro Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 What paints do you plan on working with?
martinfan5 Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 (edited) For primer I am using dupicolor filler primer, and then most likely will do a coat of sealer, and for the black I am going to either use dupicolor or MM lacquer black. I have already tested the primer on the spare hood, no problems so far. Edited October 16, 2011 by martinfan5
eyner91camaro Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Great! I have a similar but later model of the same car. The peak on the front edge of the hood doesn't seem to blend to well to the nose of the car. I had to add styrene and work it to fit flush. I think it's an MPC thing. lol. They seem to cut some corners on some of the earlier kits. Still a great kit though. Body really captures the look of the car well compared to some of the other manufactures that did the same subject. I'll keep an eye out on this build!
martinfan5 Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 I think you are right about t being an MPC thing, and you are right , it is a great kit, MPC kits are simple but can be built up nicely .
martinfan5 Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 I have got the body painted, I still need to clear it. Painted the interior, not sure if I am happy with, I still need to paint the dash, but I having a hard time finding good interior pics to use a reference . Painted the engine block as well
eyner91camaro Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 If this helps check out ThirdGen.org. Lots of pics! Nice work on the black.
martinfan5 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Well getting close to finishing this up, I am ready to put it all together, but I still need to make a windshield first, since this kit had the tinted windows with it including the windshield . And I need to get the valve covers painted and put on the engine
martinfan5 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Just fond out I have the engine block the wrong color, so i am going to repaint it .
