I decided to change my perspective on this whole subject. I initially looked at it from my viewpoint as a model builder. I would not pay that much. But..I can look at it differently. I am glad to see that there are people who value our hobby enough to pay a lot of money for an interesting piece of art.

I am afraid I would be working below minimum wage even if somebody gave me $1000 for one of my builds - but I really don't have to worry about that.

I wouldn't pay that much because I can build one near that standard myself. But the market dictated the price! Its worth what someone is willing to pay!

I've always agreed with Harry on this. People will pay whatever price for something they think they want, or must have.

Personally, I would never combine a hobby I love with money (been there done that!) and it's bound to feel like it's work, and who wants that, right?

Absolutely, Doctor. If I had to do this for a living, it would drive me funny in minutes.

Think about it this way - If work could be like model building, how great would that be?

I have done both. Worked for a living and built models for a living. I don't regret a minute of the time I spent "pro-building" and resin casting but there have been many times that a real job was quite unsatisfying and unfulfilling. I work a real job now but I liked the model making "biz" so much that I still do it part time.

I don't get paying someone else to build a model for you!I hope these guys(The buyer) don't try to pass off the pro-built models as there own work. That would be a punk thing to do,and they should be ashamed of themselves.
