sobpinstriping Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I usually put on some of my punk records, or some old country, I know its the opposite end of the spectrum but it works for me
BKcustoms Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I usually listen to Shinedown while I build.

FASTBACK340 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I thank my parents for saving me from this thing called modern music. You couldn't pay me to listen to a modern song... Wow, that's pretty narrow minded. I bet you like multi-piece body Revell kits too because they came from the "Golden Age" of modeling the classics! Being 53 yrs. old I'll bet you think I'm going to lobby for the Stones, Floyd, and Tull. Nope, never happen. Much like today, radio feeds you what THEY want you to hear. Not to single out anyone (sorry for the above quote....) but to me all those "Classic" rock acts are nothing more than that generations top 40 that was pumped out of the record company machine. If you close your mind to new things, your bound to be a historian, not a participant of today. Modern music is bad? Yup.... only the ###### you hear on the radio. Nickleback stinks, but Stone Sour is great. The new Metallica with Lou Reed is HORRIBLE.... but Metallica's last album was good. You just have to LISTEN. I don't own a Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones, or Grateful Dead album (MP3 files...) But I DID go see Death Angel, Testament, and Anthrax in New Jersey Saturday night.... I guess I'm the exception to the "Classic Rock" regurgitation demographic, huh? Listen to the words to Rush's Spirit of the Radio. This will give some insight to what I'm saying.... BTW: When I build I prefer some vintage Jazz to keep the mood smooth and easy. If I'm doing demo work in the yard or I'm using loud, noisy power tools, Slipknot or Tool is a good fit. To me classic rock is early Rage Against the Machine...
FASTBACK340 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) Just to make it easier.... http://lyrics.astraw...spirit_of_radio BTW: This song is a powerful show of musical TALENT. Not someone lip-syncing to a clap-track and kick drum. Edited November 14, 2011 by FASTBACK340
Dr. Cranky Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I listen to a variety of things while I am at the bench, mostly lots of Tom Wait, Johnny Cash, and Watermelon Slim and The Workers.
FASTBACK340 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 For me, I have a Jazz station that broadcast's out of New Jersey (WBGO) They play all the genuine vintage stuff. Just Piano, Bass, Drums, Horns, and usually very poorly recorded. For me it's the perfect fit for a mellow mood for building. It's not all I listen to, but for model building it's old school Jazz.
hellonwheelz3 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I actually don't have a radio in my hobby room, but I still have my ways. I have a police scanner lol. I know I'm a geek
SuperStockAndy Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Just to make it easier.... http://lyrics.astraw...spirit_of_radio BTW: This song is a powerful show of musical TALENT. Not someone lip-syncing to a clap-track and kick drum. I absolutely love that song. In my opinion when Neil Peart joined Rush, they really developed a style of their own.
Sixx Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) Megadeth- Symphony of Destruction. Pretty much fits in with whatever I'm doing at the workbench at any given moment. Right on Chuck!!!!!! Now that's my kind of music Makes me wanna go put it on now!!!!!!!! Edited November 15, 2011 by Sixx
Junkman Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) For me it pretty much depends on what I'm building. I use music to get me in the mood of the subject. So if I -let's say- build a Mercedes 540K, I listen to Max Raabe und das Palast Orchester, Marlene Dietrich, etc. If I build an old Heller, I listen to Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet, Yves Montand, etc. If I build a classic American, I listen to Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, etc. If I build a Fifties car, I listen to Dion & The Belmonts, Flash Cadillac, etc. If I build a Pick Up or Truck, I listen to Alan Jackson, The Dillards, etc. and so on... Looking forward to building the London Bus, because I'll listen to Ashton Gardner & Dyke, some ancient Fleetwood Mac and the Honky Tinkers. Edited November 15, 2011 by Junkman
Lownslow Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 what im blasting this month http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-qDV8FMpRY&list=LLRwlEVsontC6ea8M2aFk2ug&index=2&feature=plpp_video
Hypermung Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I like to listen to anything from Pink Floyd, but every time I do, the missus yells out "turn that bloody drug music off".... So conciquently I have to wait for her to leave the house before I can get my PF hit...Sheesh... some people got no taste
JamesW Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I listen to whatever is on the radio, on my phone, or on the boob tube. What can I say, I'm eclectic.
ffreak Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 For me it's gotta be oldies. 50's and 60's doo wop, beach boys and such. It just takes me back to what I listened to when I built models as a kid and it brings back those old feelings and enjoyment. Sure i'll occasionially throw in some other newer genre, but the oldies is where the heart is for me.
Tony T Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 The radio or whatever CD happens to be at hand. Sometimes I'll plug in the MP3 player and play a selection of the 425 songs currently on it! I have an ecclectic taste in music from 50s to current...Bill Haley to Nine Inch Nails to Pink Floyd to Rise Against and EVERYTHING in between!!
Hypermung Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Found me a new building song I've never heard of these guys before, but I like it... Reminds me of Skyhooks from the mid 70's.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7l8rlnMpCIhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb4AdU6rbFc

Evil Appetite Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Wow..someone has never heard of Rush before? Mind boggling! They're the best thing to come out of Canada since...since.... anyway...Triumph is pretty good as well!

To me classic rock is early Rage Against the Machine... Rest assured...the Metallica/Lou Reed thing is by no means to be considered the new Metallica release. I along with the rest of their fans were freaking when they announced that one..but it's just a side project, a collaboration. Why they did it, we don't know..the reason they did S&M was because they could. They got to the point in their career where they could do anything they wanted.(not bad for a band that my friends told me sucked when i first played Ride The Lightning for them back in the 80's...look at'em now) I hated S&M when it first came out, but over the years it's grown on me..Lulu..will never see the inside of my CD player though. Wow..Death Angel is still around?? That brings me back!! *warm nostalgia feelings for the 80's* Edited November 17, 2011 by Evil Appetite
