My brother found me a 5 gallon air tank that holds 100 lbs. If I took it to the gas station I could probably only get about 50 lbs into it. but with a regulator on it and set up to be a tank for an airbrush. How long do you think it would last per fill up?

also what recommendations would you guys have for setting this up to feed my airbrush. I have a basic single action right now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

um just a guess but maybe he is looking for tips.

i stopped looking at that section though because it seemed to me some time ago some draconian regs were put in place that pretty much negate that section. maybe i had it wrong but i want tips and tutorials there and certainly asking for tips fits right in there to my thinking anyway.

but im nearly a professional contrarian.

I learned long ago that the worst thing that can happen while you are in the middle of a killer paint job is to run out of pressure. I agree, go with a cheap compressor, it's you best bet to start out with. I love my Iwata Sprint Jet!

Air compressor , a must have ! Running low on pressure in the middle of a sweep will cause the airbrush to spit paint or simply sputter . Terrible way to ruin an otherwise pristine finish .

You should also have at least one good inline moisture trap , it goes a long way towards preventing unwanted oil and water from marring a beautiful finish !

The Tips. Tricks and Tutorial section is for posting tips, tricks and tutorials.

I know, crazy, right???

and not for ASKING for tips on something you're having a hard time with?

yep, i guess "crazy" is the word all right.

We have a section called "How Do I?" Guess what it's for.

It's for asking questions about how to do stuff.

If you have a tip or trick or tutorial you want to share, you post it in the Tips, Tricks and Tutorials section.

If you have a question about how to do something, you post it in the How Do I? (Q&A) section.

I thought that was pretty self-evident, but I guess it needs to be explained?

come on guys hes new hell git it

I wouldn't concider someone that has been a member since September 27, 2007 "new"!

sorry a 3 year member with no gear .. does not know much for 3 years

Oh, so now you're calling him stupid just because after being a member here for 3 years and modeling for who nows how long and having questions about an airbrush and maybe not relizing there was a tips section!?!?:huh::blink: At one time, that section didn't exist, and maybe he didn't know about it!

And if your comment is just about the lack of airbrush knowledge, then I must be dumber than a rock, because in the almost 30 years I've been in this hobby, I've never picked up an airbrush and don't know the first thing about them! :o

Wow. I will never again post a topic on this website for fear I may place it in the wrong category. I didn't know it was such a hot button topic. But afterall, model building IS a matter of life and death.

ok i didnt mean to take this thread off on some tangent but i see what youre talking about harry...its just that i have been here since when that was more a "ask gregg and jairus a question" forum and not a "how do i do this" forum. but i see now what you mean. regardless its kool with me anyway because you guys set the rules, i was more or less just wondering why you pick on that when everyday posts are made in this "general" column that much more would belong in another forum. a particular example that happens all the time is the talking about new releases...i think there is a specific forum for that too but no one calls anyone on it.

anyway no worries, i will start reading that q&a forum more then.

but back to the original point of the thread i would recommend that chicks videos on airbrush use even though she is only using water based acrylics. i just watched them last night and learned a lot especially about cleaning and rebuilding an airbrush and its components. she has a great style (she even used that "thats what she said" line once to great effect) and really seems to know her way around a brush.

A compressor with moisture trap and regulator is a must have tool for that tool box if you use an airbrush. It will pay for itself time and time again.

That said, I build a little bit of everything, cars, armor, some aircraft, and have recently gotten into ships. I have five airbrushes that I use for different purposes depending on what I am building at the time.

No one says you must use an airbrush to be a good modeller, hell I rarely use one on a car build. I'm not that good a modeller though.........

Hot button indeed, sorry about the misplacement but I read it a asking for tips as well. Anyway the moderators got the thread settled in the right location so we're all good.

I was seeing if the tank would be a good starter setup as the shop my brother works at is getting rid of the equipment.

I've got a basic testors airbrush so just looking for something to feed it enough air to spray a body at a time or some misc parts.
