Toast Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 My brother found me a 5 gallon air tank that holds 100 lbs. If I took it to the gas station I could probably only get about 50 lbs into it. but with a regulator on it and set up to be a tank for an airbrush. How long do you think it would last per fill up? also what recommendations would you guys have for setting this up to feed my airbrush. I have a basic single action right now. Thanks in advance for any help.
mr cheap Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 your set up shoud look like this /// air comp ///line to /// air tank with a reg and water sep // line to //air brush/// for that your done but theres more ... air comp.... any thing that pumps air will do for a while..... for cheap go to pawn shops 20.00 will work nicey what are you painting theres more than 6or 7 types of paint thier all diff ...do diff things.... paint i get from ebay its 1/2 price .. but its old youll need a paint shaker or a jewery cleaner 2.00 or 50.00 no contest ..fillter with patie hose good luck

Harry P. Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Why did you post this in the Tips and Tutorials section???
jbwelda Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 um just a guess but maybe he is looking for tips. i stopped looking at that section though because it seemed to me some time ago some draconian regs were put in place that pretty much negate that section. maybe i had it wrong but i want tips and tutorials there and certainly asking for tips fits right in there to my thinking anyway. but im nearly a professional contrarian.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I learned long ago that the worst thing that can happen while you are in the middle of a killer paint job is to run out of pressure. I agree, go with a cheap compressor, it's you best bet to start out with. I love my Iwata Sprint Jet!
LoneWolf15 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Air compressor , a must have ! Running low on pressure in the middle of a sweep will cause the airbrush to spit paint or simply sputter . Terrible way to ruin an otherwise pristine finish . You should also have at least one good inline moisture trap , it goes a long way towards preventing unwanted oil and water from marring a beautiful finish !

The Tips. Tricks and Tutorial section is for posting tips, tricks and tutorials. I know, crazy, right???
jbwelda Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 >The Tips. Tricks and Tutorial section is for posting tips, tricks and tutorials. and not for ASKING for tips on something you're having a hard time with? yep, i guess "crazy" is the word all right.

Tricks and Tutorial section is for posting tips, tricks and tutorials. and not for ASKING for tips on something you're having a hard time with? yep, i guess "crazy" is the word all right. We have a section called "How Do I?" Guess what it's for. It's for asking questions about how to do stuff. If you have a tip or trick or tutorial you want to share, you post it in the Tips, Tricks and Tutorials section. If you have a question about how to do something, you post it in the How Do I? (Q&A) section. I thought that was pretty self-evident, but I guess it needs to be explained?

highway Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 sorry a 3 year member with no gear .. does not know much for 3 years Oh, so now you're calling him stupid just because after being a member here for 3 years and modeling for who nows how long and having questions about an airbrush and maybe not relizing there was a tips section!?!? At one time, that section didn't exist, and maybe he didn't know about it! And if your comment is just about the lack of airbrush knowledge, then I must be dumber than a rock, because in the almost 30 years I've been in this hobby, I've never picked up an airbrush and don't know the first thing about them!
brad4321 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Wow. I will never again post a topic on this website for fear I may place it in the wrong category. I didn't know it was such a hot button topic. But afterall, model building IS a matter of life and death.
jbwelda Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 ok i didnt mean to take this thread off on some tangent but i see what youre talking about harry...its just that i have been here since when that was more a "ask gregg and jairus a question" forum and not a "how do i do this" forum. but i see now what you mean. regardless its kool with me anyway because you guys set the rules, i was more or less just wondering why you pick on that when everyday posts are made in this "general" column that much more would belong in another forum. a particular example that happens all the time is the talking about new releases...i think there is a specific forum for that too but no one calls anyone on it. anyway no worries, i will start reading that q&a forum more then. but back to the original point of the thread i would recommend that chicks videos on airbrush use even though she is only using water based acrylics. i just watched them last night and learned a lot especially about cleaning and rebuilding an airbrush and its components. she has a great style (she even used that "thats what she said" line once to great effect) and really seems to know her way around a brush.
Agent G Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 A compressor with moisture trap and regulator is a must have tool for that tool box if you use an airbrush. It will pay for itself time and time again. That said, I build a little bit of everything, cars, armor, some aircraft, and have recently gotten into ships. I have five airbrushes that I use for different purposes depending on what I am building at the time. No one says you must use an airbrush to be a good modeller, hell I rarely use one on a car build. I'm not that good a modeller though......... G
Toast Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Hot button indeed, sorry about the misplacement but I read it a asking for tips as well. Anyway the moderators got the thread settled in the right location so we're all good. I was seeing if the tank would be a good starter setup as the shop my brother works at is getting rid of the equipment. I've got a basic testors airbrush so just looking for something to feed it enough air to spray a body at a time or some misc parts.
mr cheap Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 houston is there a problem // with my spelling or //with me ????????
