Johnag4004 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Hi all, I have seen many models with this thing called Flock, I've never seen nor heard of it before and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of where I could get some from here in the UK please... Also, if I do manage to get hold of some, may I ask how does one go about using it please... Many thanks for any help/info... Andy...

Johnag4004 Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Hi all, Many thanks for the links and the 'how to' guide, very much appreciated... Andy...
GeeBee Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 The last lot I bought off eBay, i got from a seller in the U.S, and for the price you get a pretty big bag of the stuff, and she does loads of colours http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PURPLE-FLOCKING-1oz-/220557582564?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item335a41a0e4#ht_807wt_952 also the glue I use is Solvite border and overlap adhesive, it's PVA based but is thin enough to brush on.
Junkman Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) As a 'glue' I use Humbrol gloss enamel in roughly the same colour the flocking is. I paint it on with a brush, that way I have total control over what will ultimately be flocked and what not. For example, I can omit the rubber insert under the pedals by just not painting it. I then apply the flocking through a tea strainer and can immediately shake the excess off. By using brushed on Humbrol enamel as a glue, I can do two-tone flocking simply by painting and flocking the first colour, then paint and flock the remaining bits. Here is a black 'carpet' achieved by using Humbrol gloss black as a glue and black flocking: This was my first attempt at two-tone flocking: I have refined my technique since. GeeBee Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Well I've read many articles in magazines and the internet, but up until now, I had never used the stuff, so I thought I would give it a go on the Morgan I'm building, and I'm pretty happy with the results, so get some of the flocking and give it a go, just take it slowly, I spent 2 days doing this, in between working on my magazine work. This is how I did mine :- 1/ Paint the interior and let dry 2/ use PVA (I used Solvite wallpaper repair adhesive) and brush on where you want the flocking to stick 3/ Sprinkle the flocking, press down with your finger, and then leave to dry, I used a flat paintbrush to push down in the corners 4/ Shake off the excess flocking, it might look a little bit "Bald and scruffy" don't worry, apply another coat of the glue and sprinkle another dose of the flocking and again, press down in the corners and leave to dry. 5/ Shake off excess flocking and the job should be finished. I used one of these to apply the flocking and kept the part in a plastic tub while I was working on it, as the stuff gets everywhere ... The Results :-
GeeBee Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Great results with the flocking, Geoff. Thanks !
Johnag4004 Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 It does look so much better than just having a painted interior, I gave some sticky felt a go on a rear parcel shelf, looks ok, but, when I attached the whole thing together (body, chassis & interior) the felt pushed the rear screen out at the top which caused problems with the side windows, it was too late to do anything about it by the time I noticed it the glue had set (I'll post some pictures when I get my camera sorted)...
