dabelltoller Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 was wondering when clearcoating. well finishing i wanna hide the thin outline of decals or blanded it better. does just spraying the model with clearcoat hide this ? from other post i see how it makes a great finish and the sanding between coats, i just wanna try to blend and hide the decals of my semi feed truck ! any help or info on this would be great also do i remove or tape over glass to prevent hazing on the glass parts ? any other parts i should remove or cover when finshing off model ?
Jantrix Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 For one, you shouldn't be clear coating with windows installed. Sounds like you've already assembled it. Clear over chrome parts isn't a good idea. So disassemble as much as you can, tape over everything you can't take apart that isn't a painted body part. For the future it should go something like this. Paint Bare Metal foil decals clear polish assemble touch up polish And yes, a couple coats of clear WILL help blend in the decals. However, your best bet regardless of the type of paint/decals/clear you use, when you prime/paint the body, do the same to a plastic (styrene) picnic spoon. When you apply decals take a spare decal from the same sheet and add it to the painted spoon. Clear the spoon first. That way you know the clear is compatible with the paint and decals.
Evil Appetite Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Make sure those decals are flat though..make sure not one tiny edge is sticking up. otherwise the clear coat will just make that more obvious. Thats my experience anyway
