pete3522 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I am redoing a can-do wrecker i bought off evil bay the light bar on the rotator was caked with orange arcylic paint which looked like ###### I stripped it off down to the original clear point. Is their a paint for this that would make the clear look like tinted orange??Also same thing with the turn signals on the ends of the headlights. If i paint it orange from the inside i still dont think it would look right???Any of you guys know a good paint to use for this?I see they have transparent arcylics is this what i use???
ewaskew Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Testor's in the bottle has amber paint. If you ca'nt get any you can try several shade's of orange and yellow sharpie marker's on a piece of clear scrap=part's tree. untill you get the color you want.
Madd Trucker Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I use Tamyias clear red , clear orange and clear yellow
whale392 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Tamiya clears seem to work for the vast majority, including me.
ffreak Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I used to use Testors model master paints for those but now I use the Tamiya clear orange, red and yellow. I try to use bare metal foil as a backing for them to give the proper reflection.
Ben Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 You can use a orange or red Sharpie marker as well.
olomonster Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I use orange window stain paint it even works for over Chrome parts that are supposed to amber
mackinac359 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Tamiya clear orange and clear red. I never knew about this product until another modeler suggested it several years ago. It's great!
hotrod59f100 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Sharpies are a great alturnative and look good to I made vary realistic light with them
Pete J. Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 You can get the Tamiya paints in either rattle can or bottle. The rattle cans are lacquers and dry very quickly and have a very hard surface. The bottles are water based acrylics and take longer to dry and are not as durable. I use the rattle cans for larger lenses and acrylics for smaller spaces like a dash board light.
Ramfins59 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Yep, Tamiya clear paints are great... Clear Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue.... They're all good. I've been using them for years.
dptydawg Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I use glass stain for lenses. |t works well over chrome lenses and over silver paint otherwise. I mix yellow- orange for amber. Carl
