B-dub Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Well as a kid I always put together the pre-painted plastic models from walmart and I'm ashamed to admit I've never finished a model I had to paint myself.. well.. here it is.... the model that will finally set me free of my fears of messing up haha.. so far that's all I have done.. chassis and bed together along with the basic engine parts.. I just about have everything glued together that I can until I start painting it.. eek...
Travis Waits Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 If the cement is used sparingly in obsure places it will allow you a free pass to start over in case of a mistake. You may have better luck if you omit the bed floor while painting the sides and fenders. Take a piece of styrene rod or a scrap piece of the parts tree and attach at the tailgate mounting point. After paint drys remove the scrap piece and paint the bed floor brown and you gotta it made...that is if you were gonna paint it wood like
Haubenschild Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I am also building one , i really want to see this completed!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Ah, one of my top 5 kits. You are going to have fun with it, it always builds up into a great model. Keep us posted.
Longbox55 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 If you need references for a replica stock version (or even a custom or hot rod), check this site out. http://www.stovebolt.com/
B-dub Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 thanks guys, and I have something different in mind for the bed good idea?? lol... oh and Cranky I'm using your chopsticks and tape and chopsticks/clip tricks (have not used them yet but I picked them up and atached the clips) I'm actually using some wooden dowels I picked up cheap from the craft section (also where I found the wood for the bed).. the $10 cheapo off brand dremel I grabbed is paying me back for sure.. it's junk and will probably burn up soon but the random bits etc. were worth what I paid.
rustybill1960 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Say, if You don't mind me asking, what "other" parts come with the kit? I am thinking of getting one and was wondering about the options? Thank You for sharing the build Later Russ
B-dub Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 just a flat styrene bumper guard like in the pic and a top mount hazzard light other than that just some nice decals
RodneyBad Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Told ya Cranky would Love it. If ya go for a more weathered look, ya don' t have to worry too much about a perfect paint job and Perfect bed floor. Good way to Get back into building..
sobpinstriping Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I just finished this same kit, I made a custom out of it (its in the underglass if you wanna look) it went together really well even with the custom stuff I did, Have fun with it!
