camaroman Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 The AMT 57 Ford Fairlane 500 acquire the custom bucket seats and rear seat insert? I had an opened but inner sealed WalMart issue that I cracked open a few minutes ago, and was very surprised to seat those parts plus another custom steering wheel on what appeared to be a later addition to the door panel sprue... Just wondering when the kit got those parts as they have a late 80's/ early 90's look to them. The custom console does not match the seat pattern at all as it has a diamond tuck look as opposed to the recaro panel look to the seats. It also has a very nice TBird custom air cleaner that is not mentioned in the instruction sheet.
Guest Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 That kit came out in 1993. I still have an extra one. That particular issue had a green and white (stock) model on the box cover and a purple (modified) version and a red and black (stock) version on the side. There was a version with a blue '57 on the cover that came with four bucket seats (along with stock seats) with a diamond tuck pattern in them. That's where the console came from. The blue on box version came with a ton of custom parts. I have a custom project using those parts in the works.
62rebel Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 yeah, losing the original custom seats was a painful blow. i have used the new set in other cars, but they look completely out of place in fifties cars. i have never figured out that Meteor grille.... odd piece. shame that they moved a lot of the chrome sprue over to plain styrene on that one... better than cutting it completely off, i reckon.

I don't know but thought they looked good in the one i did!
Chuck Most Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 With those wheels and a more contemporary build style, the Recaros look okay. The original parts were in there until at least the late '80's, but like Roger said, early '90's it was given a freshening with some (then) up to date pieces.
camaroman Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 I don't know but thought they looked good in the one i did! Hey Nice Build, I was scanning this one to give to some kids I know... Think I will keep it till they get a few more under their belt. I don't want to discourage them with those fiddly doors... Thanks for the info guys...
Eshaver Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 The 57 Fairlane in 1963 had 4 buckets and a full lenth console . I don't know the re-pops as that kit was re-poped sever if not too many times . the kit back in 63 as I recall had a Diamond pleat , so did the low back seats . The steering wheel was some sort of a cut down affair . Ed Shaver
