foxbat426 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 hi, for you hobbiests using testors enamel, how many bottles of the small testors enamel is the right amount for painting 1 shell with a 2:1 laquer ratio (2-paint 1-laquer)? just trying to get a idea on about how much paint i should b using for 1 shell. 2bottles go p[retty quick out of an airbrush! thanks all for anwering my question regarding the "dusty paint". i'll keep the air brush closer on my next round!! great forum! thx, john
LoneWolf15 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 For a standard paint job ( body , hood , front and rear valance ) 2 - 1/2 ounce bottles will do just fine . You might have a bit left over , pour it back into one of the bottles and it will keep for quite some time . The same ratio is used when using the clear coat .
Dr. Cranky Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 I find that I've been doing paint jobs with two bottles and I usually have a little bit left over, which I keep in case . . . When I mix in pearls into the clear I keep the leftovers too so that I can experiment with different colors and effects.
DavidChampagne Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I am reading a lot lately about using Laquer Thinner with enamels. I have been using the "TESTERS AIRBRUSH THINNER", 1/1 mix +/-, and using Paint thinner/ Mineral spirits from Walmart for cleanup. No "DUSTING" effect that I remember. I do use Laquer Thinner with House of Colors pearls etc, and for fingernail polish. Then, I do see the "Dusting" effect. Is it better to use Laquer Thinner with Enamals too? Better flow? What? Very curious here. I am using a AZTEK A470 airbrush, double action.
MikeMc Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 David ....don't go stirin Donn up as he thinks the only paint to use is enamel with lacquer thinner.....Now his paint is shiny and purdy and his method will allow those enamels to actually dry! Look up his videos..they speak wonders... OLD MAN
