SSNova70 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Hey guys, I was recently going through my "abandoned" model car kits from when I had just starting modelling. I found a couple models that could be considered "glue bombs". The question is that none of them have frames and the kits are missing almost all of the engine parts. Would just like to redo these models. Any ideas?
kennb Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 You can make a simple frame for any of them. A simple ladder frame would sufice to get them on rubber. Depending on what is missing from the engines you could work with what you have and make things like valve covers or oil pans and starters. It just depends how involved with salvaging them you want to get, KennB
trogdor Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Revell parts pak engines will take care of the missing engines
AMT Pacemakers Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I'd say buy a parts kit for them if they are really important to you, besides, its a good way to get a parts box going. Robert
Dr. Cranky Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Look for parts in other kits to rob and go from there.
Eshaver Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Will, here is my sugestion . Remember , it's simply a sugestion . I would plan out a swampy diorama . yes , derilect, full of leaves , mud , a creekbed . Have the models without frames shown with small trees growing up in between and through the hoods . I used to visit such a yard in east Fort Worth texas all the time . Pretty much it was really a large river bed that flooded all the time . Go visit the H. A. M. B forum to see such wrecking yard pictures too............... Ed Shaver
mikemodeler Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 You might be able to cobble some of them together depending on what they are. The ones without engines can always be built as a curbside model and if you are just looking for a model to put on a shelf, a frame really isn't necessary, just come up with a way to attach the wheels. Ed also has a great idea in that they could be used in a diorama setting. A little bit of weathering and they would be good to go! Keep your eye open on the swap section, you might be able to find some parts or possible trades.
SSNova70 Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Thanks guys these are all great suggestions, heck I might just use some of the models for a swampy/junkyard diorama just because I like the sound of it. I also like the Idea of doing some rat rods. Thanks guys!
