Hippie Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Ok well here goes nothing, my first post. This is Barry Sheene's Yamaha YRZ500. nothing special just a early tamika kit, I basically just added a few more wires, scrachbuilt a few new pieces, and replace some bolts with brass. (hopefuly the photos post) I haven't seen to many bikes on the form, but I'm hoping that's just coincidence, but if not don't kill me for the post.
jeffs396 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Welcome Erik!!! Great job on the Yamaha, very realistic!
weasel Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 nice bike!!! i love the smell of 2strokes in the morning....
diymirage Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 looks good Erik there are only 2 things i would have done different (if you care to hear) the first one is the main thing, there is a small line of flash on the front tire a little bit of sanding will get rid of that aswell as give the tire a nice used look (ive started sanding all my tires) the second thing is the blueing on the exhaust pipe it looks really good, but IMHO it is overdone the blueing happens as a result of the pipe heating up, as exhaust gasses travel down the pipe they cool down and this effect vanishef the further you get away from the barrel the way it looks on your bike the gasses cool down and heat up again as they go through the pipes several times its just a little thing but i think it would look better if you kept the blueing just on the front end on a side note...those decals look GREAT i cant even get them to lay flat on a flat surface
Hippie Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 thanks man, about the tires, i left them un sanded cause i wanted to show brand new tires, i have some Goodyear label decals i printed up to add to them to show that there unused but i lost them and haven't bothered to have some more printed, i agree with you on the exhaust, when i built this i tried to do a perfect model of a restored bike, which means that everything is shinny, perfect paint, new tires, polished aluminum etc, if i had the chance i would build another more like the original, make the engine dirty, not use gloss on the frame and all sort of other stuff, back then they simply couldn't afford the man hours to polish everything and if i ever build one again its going to completely different. the secret to decals is first the decals them self, the tamiya decals are printed by cargraf and are perfect, these are a few years old and your can't even tell, my only problem was the front cowl, the stripes, yellow circle and number are different decals, the 7 and yellow circle cracked, but they blended fine after a bit of work. im sure some one else can give us a how to on the decals better than me, this is only the second thing i have done a build with a lot of decals
krazyglu Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 This thing really is awesome and although you maybe could have done a few things different we all agree its wicked. I picked up the Ducati Mike Hailwood replica last week and It will be my first bike and first 1/12 scale. Thanks for posting this a motivating me Erik.
Austin T Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 So where is the model Erik? You know that it is against the rules to post a real bike and say it's a model.just kidding.Lol Great job.
