Hello,

Here is a very long term project. A Corvette SR-2 racer.

About 2 years ago, while working on the SS, I started flirting with the idea of the SR-2. This has never been offered in plastic, at least in 1/24-25 scale. I ordered the resin body but it needs some corrections.

So I started to do my own. It's not easy to live with diagnosed "OVERCOMPLICADITIS" :P

If it goes as planned, it will be the master for the resin caster.

This was the begining. After extensive research, I started with the front of the car. I have taken hundreds of measurements from hundreds of pictures and references of the cars.

Here it is with the first putty pass. One down, at least 99 to go. And this is only the nose. Honestly, it went better than I expected.

As you can see, this is quite a challenging project. Sometimes I wonder if this is more that what I can chew...

What do you think?

Thanks,

Sharp eyes, Pat! You are right. Just imagine how important the project is when I hacked up one of those just for the front of the nose...

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRHHHHH!!!!! (The big man shrieks!)

Ismael, your building my FAVORITE

racing 'Vette of the '50's!!

In fact it was a toss up between doing this car or building the stock one I eventually did.

Someday I want to build the street SR-2 that was given to Harlowe Curtice back in '56.........Here are a couple pics I dug up on Google....

Ismael.......you KNOW I'm gonna keep a close watch on this one!! 8)

Bill,

Actually, I'm thinking on doing both fins separate. That would make it a bit more challenging to build, blend and smooth, but the body could be used for any of the 3 cars (or the first low fin racer) with little modifications. This is a long term project but I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Ismael

I've crushed one in Randy's basement....... :D

Let's see: It has taken me 2 years to get the nose and fenders "in the ballpark". Based on that and on what's still pending, hmmm yeah, come back in about 10 years for the body, about 5 more for the interior and 5 more for the rest. Yeah, 20 years should be enough if I hurry

Still a bit of fine tuning is needed in the fenders' surface, then I will work on the bottom half of the front. That's my major concern now. Then it is on to the extended hood, fin, the sides, interiors etc....

Looking Good

Having Flash Back when " I did the MASTER " of the C5 53

*note

To reinforce the Larger Putty Spans *I glazed it w/ CA Glue

FYI ... back in the day Mini Exotics ( Gerry C ) did that in 1/24

( just the Body ) & to the best of my Knowledge ........ I "think" I saw a Body over on evilBay already in Resin ( I could be wrong ) in 1/25

I was in contact w/ the owner of the Blue SR2 a while back

& ( some where ) have many reference picture of that car

"all around in & out "

I also assisted in the display of that SR2 ( Blue ) at Corvettes @ Carlisle when it was in Chips Choice . While helping them set up the display, I was the one in the Driver Seat & that Steering Wheel was HUGE & no power steering Urggg, >> My hand & forearms were tired after Grunting that wheel around !

As far as the significant difference between the 2 Race Cars

Bill T's & Rich M's ( Blue / Red )

I can tell you that the interiors are very different, the Show Car is all together another deal in it's self

I have a few ideas , email me directly & we can discuss the details

BTW ..... I know have Free Long Distance & can call you

Build ON !

Hey Don,

I do have the Mini-Exotics body. It is a good start, but it is not 100% accurate. I'm trying my best to get it right.

I have an ambitious plan to make all 3 cars, but at an average of one every 20 years....

This year is shaping up as a very slow one, modeling wise for me

Thanks,

Way to dredge up an amost ONE YEAR OLD POST, Don !! Is the heat on you these days?

From the best of my knowledge and recollection in conversations with Randy, your 'master' for the C5-53 was used sparingly in creation of the 'corrected' master that you and Randy had agreed to work on TOGETHER. Much of that 'master' of yours was unuseable and a small percentage of it was used in the final Perry's master.

Your version of the story will probably differ.

I would assume remains of your master are in a landfill somewhere, LONG after it's usefulness has expired.

As a personal note, I briefly met you at NNL East a few years ago.

I have bought no product from you so I cannot comment on your products for sale, however, I found you to be disagreeable person to talk to ..., a loud, rude braggart, and therefore someone I cannot PERSONALLY do business with.

Pat this comes really close to a personal attack! You have been warned! - moderator

AAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! THUD!

Are you sure it is the SR-2? I know he recently released the Cunningham 1960 LeMans racer....

'Tis true Izzy............I remember at the MAMA meeting months ago Harold telling me he was working on one. I told him I'd be interested in just the body alone to do the street SR-2.

Yes it is the SR2. The cunningham has been out for over a year now.

I have one from when he first put them out. Better hurry and who ever casts yours better be a better caster than HRM. Which so far is the

best along with Rep&MinofMD in my book.

What part are you refering to?

The facts or my OPINION of Don?

I'll try to contact Harold in the next few days. If he's doing it I'll drop this project and write off the last 2 years. He is at the top of my list as well and of course he can do it far better than I can, not to mention faster....

Thanks for the heads up!
