Painting the cab with clear coat

Quick question, I'm getting ready to clear coat the cab on my kenworth, it is orange, do you lightly sand it, then put clear coat on? also do you put the decals on first. you guys told me but I can't remember what grit of sandpaper.

Gloss clear over them protects them but it depends on what you want.

If the paint looks good I go ahead and get 3 or more coat's of clear on it before I start wet sanding for the final smooth look.

People do everything differant I start with 1200 and work up to 2000 grit depending on how it's going untill it's smooth.
