W-409 Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 When that '64 Corvette is finished, I thought, I would share another build with you guys. Hope you enjoy as much as I will while building this. So I got Monogram '59 Caddy as christmas present, and it'll be Factory Stock. Body will be red with red and white interior. I will leave that soft top optional. I started from the engine, glued that engine block together, and used Tamiya liquid glue to smooth that engine seam off. I There was little fit issue on the frontend of that block, so I glued piece of styrene to fix that, and then cut it to correct shape. Some more liquid glue was added after that last picture was taken. Some progress pictures. Engine block together. Fit issue... Some styrene to fix it...
W-409 Posted December 25, 2011 Author Posted December 25, 2011 Here is styrene on its correct shape: ...And thanks for looking in.
Wheels Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Cool! I'm watching to see how this turns out!
W-409 Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 Thanks, Mark and Andrew! Some bondo for the engine block. Tomorrow some sanding, and if everything looks good, I will paint it with primer. I'm trying to build this car as nice as I can, all of the ejector marks, and mold lines need to be removed. And of course detailing is important too.
W-409 Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 Little update. I sanded bondos smooth, and now I painted block blue. I had to paint two coats, before it was looking good enough. Next I'm starting the engine assembly, so let's see tomorrow if there comes new update or not... Here is the engine block ready for painting... After two coats of Blue paint...
W-409 Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Sorry fellas, no updates yet. I've been sick, and spent yesterday in the bed. Now it's getting better, hopefully I can get back building tomorrow or Friday.
W-409 Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 I'm feeling bit better, so here we have little update. I installed cylinder heads, and oil pan and intake manifold. I also painted transmission with Humbroll's Metallic 56. Next I must detail valve covers and paint those bolts all over the engine.
W-409 Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Little update- I worked with thoe valve covers today. I put some BMF on the Cadillac texts and those other two chrome parts are BMF too. It wasn't easy job to do, and end result is not perfect. Anyway I'm pretty happy about them, because those letters are very small. Needs to make little cleanup and then I'll paint some clear over the engine.
