From a traditonal standpoint Dave has a point in that most leadsleds look best as traditional customs. That being said, if done right, a pro street or pro mod 49 Merc can look rather beastly, and I mean that in a positive way. There have been a few 49 Merc pro mods in the past that loooked rather cool but maybe some added bodywork adjustmenst would be in order to give the body a more racing look and get it away from the custom look. Maybe wedge shape the rofile a bit and pancake the hood. Just a few suggestions for you to ponder.

outlaw pro street would be a killer show car not a race car. go to www.yellow bullit com  go there that site has a ton of pro mod and pro street cars

I would suggest Pro Mod too, but maybe I'd start it from AMT kit, which has stock body. But I think, Chopped '49 Mercury would look good too as Pro Mod racer, but I think, PM cars look the best when front end is not shaped aerodynamic. So I wouldn't do any other body modifications, than spoiler and chop top. Of course hood needs some work too...
