Rob Hall Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) there is something VERY crooked about the whole car....................... and something about that engine bay pic really bothers me I briefly read the Hemmings article that said it was the original General Lee..the first car wrecked on the show (from the jump in the opening titles)....I read it was repaired and 'restored' to be as sloppily put together as a movie car normally is to get an authentic 1978 TV show car patina... Greg Myers Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 there is something VERY crooked about the whole car....................... and something about that engine bay pic really bothers me Kinda like one of those kids puzzles, "Find the goofs in this picture".
Rob Hall Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 no way i'm buying it with that engine bay pic, no way. Looks like a typical worn 40+ yr old car under the hood, which I think was the intention..
Harry P. Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Story says they "restored" it to the condition it would have been at the time that it was created for the show... sloppy paint, numbers on crooked, etc. It's not supposed to be a "perfect" restoration but a restoration back to how it supposedly looked at the time of filming.
Rob Hall Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) there is no way in hell that you are going to tell me that's the cowl and front section of the Lee1 Charger. They probably just put the VIN on another body. Or a cut-and-paste of a front clip from another body. Remember...Hollywood, Barrett-Jackson--it's all smoke and mirrors..fake as a $3 bill. ChrisPflug Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 there is something VERY crooked about the whole car....................... and something about that engine bay pic really bothers me Looks like maybe the cowl, dash, and possibly the windshield might be from the original car if "The only reproduction sheetmetal is the trunk floor" Where do you draw the line at resto versus rebody? Seems more like a very high dollar replica that includes a few neat artifacts from the original car
Rob Hall Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Here's an article on Inside Line about the 'resto'... http://www.insideline.com/features/the-resurrection-of-general-lee.html
Dr. Cranky Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 For us rust-and-gunk heads, that engine bay looks beautiful!
Psychographic Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 From the people who knowingly sold a fake JFK Ambulance as the real deal last year,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Rob Hall Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 From the people who knowingly sold a fake JFK Ambulance as the real deal last year,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, They have a JFK hearse this year...probably fake as well. I may go to B-J this year, not sure...I went to Gooding & Co and Russo & Steele last year, enjoyed those..not as large as B-J..though I enjoy the merch building at B-J the times I've gone before...

Got an e-mail from my son on the Charger and it got me thinking the same thing, see you there ?
moparmagiclives Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Is it the off color or the shape of things that you dont agree with? The one car I've seen was a mess like this, but I dont remember if the engine bay color was the same as the outside.
Rob Hall Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 The engine bay color looks like it's from a gold car...maybe that is what the original GL was before the crappy orange paint...and they made this 'resto' look authentic to the 1978 TV car...
