Evil Appetite Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 How do you guys shri nk this stuff aroundheaders with scratch built aluminum tubing collectors? I've tried a hair dryer...not enough heat. I've tried a bic lighter from below..at a distance of course. But still..we all know what happens to plastic when it gets too hot! I cant seem to shrink this stuff...please..any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Kit Basher Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Try a soldering iron if you have one. A fairly light touch will shrink the tubing without damaging the plastic underneath. HTH
vintagestang Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Try a heat gun they are almost like a hair dryer but hotter. Try shrinking it before you put it on the block.
Chillyb1 Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I use the lighter method but it requires more than one pass with the lighter. As you noted, keep your distance and allow the heat shrink stuff to shrink a little bit at a time. It usually takes three tries to get it where I want it.
randx0 Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I use my wifes (mine now) craft heat gun.they arent too expensive at a michaels or hobby lobby when you use the coupon.
MicroNitro Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I have a small butane flame less torch from micro mart. You can control the heat very precise.
