I think Andy and Tom need to go test drive the hybrids before they go dissing them.If you can find a Tesla dealership i think it will completely change your option. The Tesla is a fast car.I wish they would make a model of it.Go to Honda and try the CR-Z.The cool part it doesn't look like a hybrid car.The thing you need to remember is if you want your big v8 muscle cars you need the auto company's to make these cars.Don't get me wrong I love muscle cars. That's why I build models.I drive a Toyota Yaris to work, it's an hour each way.It gets great gas mileage.I may be small (in your eyes)but I can go to home depot and get 12 bags of mulch in it.That being said all the Chrysler's I've ever had have fallen apart. The morel of this post is don't go hating on something till you get all the facts.

I live in the US. Chrysler, Ford and GM all make musclecars. And it will be a cold day in Hades before I drive a Honda, Toyota or any other Asian car. We need to tax their cars in the US the way they tax ours in their home markets. They won't be selling too many $50,000 Civics or Corollas here.

If I thought you were capable of rational, adult conversation, Andy, I might take you off block. Unfortunately, by what you have exhibited here, I see that is quite a ways off yet, if ever. Now, we (collectively here) are tired of dealing with someone who is so narrow-minded and closed in that they cannot see even basic fact presented. And from someone who is 13, read it aloud Andy...13 to come in here and pretend and perpetrate that he KNOWS what it is to be older or what it was like in a time that YOU WEREN'T EVEN BORN IN/LIVED THROUGH? C'mon..........open your eyes a little. How do you know anything about Hybrids/hate them if you have never had any dealings with them? How can you begin to think that we can/will take you seriously when all you want to do is bash anything that isn't 'Old School'? Got news for you, Old School isn't all it's cracked up to be. Just wait until you have that old truck of yours NOT want to start on a cold winters day..........you will be wishing for EFI as you freeze your man-bits off. But then again, that just comes from 'some old jerk' who thinks HE knows better. In this case Andy, I DO know better.

But, if you can be a big boy, put down the B.S, and have a rational conversation and LISTEN, I might un-block you. Until then, you can say to me what you have to say in the open.

Well, Tom, you can thank NAFTA and import/export law for that. All voted on by your representatives whom line their pockets with middle-class gold. Do you think it would be any better if we did that? Nope, as most companies (asian) have manufacturing plants ON U.S soil. Now, If Europe would lower import taxes, it still wouldn't do much for us. We have networks and connections overseas, but each individual country has their own laws set up to protect their own countries product/work force. Isolationist/protectionist it is, but that is what it is. We as a country can do nothing until we as a country actually DO something instead of just crying about it. Americans are lazy, period. We want it all, cheap, and don't want to work for it. We have let ourselves go from #1 in manufacturing to #1 in service-driven marketing. We rely on everyone else to make our own goods, and until THAT changes, the import/export exchange will stay right where it is. When WE no longer need the rest of the world is when it will become 'fair' again.

Personally, I'm getting very tired of being called "close minded." Whether it be about my music or cars or whatnot, let me tell you, I've tried a lot of stuff and I know what I like.

Also, my truck was first started on a freezing cold day (Feb 24, 2008), and she fired right up.

And by the way-I'm not a know it all, for the last time.

I do, however, agree with you that Americans are lazy and everything has to be done as cheaply as possible, THAT'S a valid argument.

What do you expect from Andy, his driving experience is playing with toy cars on the floor.

You might want to watch how you use that, because some of us do play with toy cars, including me.

He kinda has a point here....

I've noticed more then a few times that Andy will chime in with his opinion, be it relevent or not, or even mature. with the only reason why of being " I just do" But I havent noticed anyone asking why he feels this way. If he has ever thought about something the other way, or how he came to that conclusion. I'm not sticking up for any hot heads or trouble makers, but I read some of this stuff, and think that could be my son, and his opinion. Because thats what hes learned and how he was taught, that how he feels. He is a kid, and I'm sure there are plenty more in here that could use a little more advice and guidence and vs. defensive criticism..

Just a thought anyway.

Shane,

There have been quite a few instances of 'offering guidance' only to be met with opposition and smart-alec answers. We have tried, and tried again to no avail. I am tired of having a kid think he knows what something is like when he obviously couldn't. I started out offering him help, and even parts. But do you think he listens, no. I am old enough to have a kid Andys age. Had my first wife not miscarried, I would have a child as old as Andy. I have a VERY good idea why Andy thinks the way he does, so any further prodding and poking will lead nowhere. At 13, I was still hanging off daddies hairs too. It took a while for me to open my eyes and look beyond dads shadow, BUT I didn't act like a know-it-all have-to-have-the-last-work kid either. Dad taught us manners and respect. He always stated God gave us two ears and one mouth so that we could listen twice as much as we speak, and heaven help us should we act foolish in public (yes, this would be considered public). But, that was when the world was different and parents actually took an active role in guiding their children and punishing them appropriately when they stepped out of line. Now, we have to babysit them because mom and dad think it's ok to plop them in front of a computer as a babysitter, and to keep them out of their hair.

I really don't care, Andy. I have had more than my share of carbed cars that are very unwilling to start in cold weather. My first car was carbed, and I will be converting it (yes, I still own it) to EFI when I get around to rebuilding it. Why? Unless the carbed car is tuned to absolute perfection (and most cases not even then), it will be a bear to start and keep running in cold weather for long periods of time. Once is a joke....try starting it every day for 4 months of 0* weather. But I digress, and I am sure you will have some smart comeback. Even my EFI cars sometimes don't like the cold, but that has to do more with the grade of oil used and the less-than-stellar cold-cranking amps of an older battery.

I realize that this is falling on deaf ears, and that everything I just said will be for naught. Oh well. My point and views are what they are from being where Andy is now. He will grow up eventually, but until then he needs to learn a little bit of restraint and respect for others who actually have knowledge, not just guesses and what was read in a magazine.

I'm sure you have Bradley, just saying is all.

Sunderland To Build Car That Won't Reach Doncaster

THE Nissan factory in Sunderland is to produce a new electric car that will be unable to get as far as Doncaster.

The Leaf, backed by £21m of taxpayers' money, has been specially designed so that if it is driven out of the factory after rush hour on a Thursday morning it will grind to a state-of-the-art halt on the A1 approximately 100 miles later.

A company spokesman said: "It should get you at least as far as Knottingley, if you keep it at 28 all the way and ignore red lights and stuff.

"The absolute furthest it would get you is probably about two miles north of Burghwallis, which - as I'm sure everyone would agree - is almost Doncaster.

When you phone for a cab tell them to pick you up from the pub."

The spokesman admitted it would be difficult to recharge the car in the middle of the South Yorkshire countryside due to Britain's 'scandalous shortage' of incredibly long extension leads.

He added: "You may as well just abandon it by the side of the road. But they only cost about twenty thousand quid so you'll probably have at least five of them."

The company stressed the car would be more attractive to people who lived in urban areas, close to their place of work who had always wanted to have a long cable running from their third floor kitchen window down into the street like some sort of Action Man death slide.

The spokesman said: "We are building up the infrastructure so that in five years time you'll be able to go to Tesco for your weekly shop and then nip into the recharging station for about 16 hours."

Meanwhile, the company has developed a range of marketing slogans including

'The Leaf - Quite Good For Sitting In'

and

'The Leaf - Because You Hate People So Much You Can't Even Spend 15 Minutes on a Bus'."

For starters, Andy, you wanted to run your mouth about the Pentroof head design. You read somewhere where it didn't work too well and I gave you REAL WORLD EVERYDAY examples of how well it worked. Then you threw some B.S explanation of your reply instead of admitting you were wrong and moving on. If you would like, we can revisit that discussion, or you can SHUT UP. Personal opinion here, but how about shut up?

Fair enough. Although I do not recall saying it didn't work well.

EDIT-And I don't mean to start anything here...

'I remember reading about that somewhere. It didn't work too well if I remember right'.

To which I replied 'It most certainly does, as every modern DOHC engine uses that design'

Then you went on one of your diatribes about 'I don't care about modern engines' B.S rants...........

But, back to topic, Hybrids most certainly do have a place in racing.

Anyway, I am done with your moronic B.S Andy. Want to be a tool and a clown, respected by other blow-hard fools and drug-addled idiots, go for it. To the rest of us who know better, you will remain a fool and a loudmouth windbag who chokes on dads wind.

If the US were to tax and limit Japanese import cars the way the Japanese do to American cars in their home markets, all your Corollas and Civics will be selling at the same price or cheaper, but imported from Japan.

There is NO tariff imposed on import cars in Japan. The only reason American cars don't sell in Japan (and the rest of the world) is because no one wants them. American cars are totally wrong for foreign markets: there are no real American compact cars to speak of, the mid-size are too large for road tax purpose, and the large cars are not prestige enough aside from Cadillac. For Ford and GM, they are better off selling their European offerings than to try exporting their American counterparts.

Now there are some very successful import operations in Japan, just that none of them is American. VW is doing very well in Japan. So is BMW and Mercedes.

A little piggy back here, Americans live by excess. Not very many other country's will buy a $50l Dzl pickup to tow the trailer they bought for camping three times each year and then let it set or put it around the rest of the time. ( now I'm not saying that the rule for all truck owners) but i see a lot of this in my day to day job. Trucks, cars, you name it. Heck, I have a boat in my garage I spent 100 bucks on every month last year and only had it out 4 times.......those were four very expensive weekend if you added it up...I don't like to think about it lol
