Darin Bastedo Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 As many of you know I'm at home taking care of my wife who is in home hospice care. As you can imagine this is a very stressful situation, Model building is helping though. I can't really build much while sitting with her, but I can do little thing. Over the years I've found that sanding things relaxes me. So I've been, sanding off trim on my Kustom Hudson Hornet (Project "Buzzkill") I've been sand the ridges off the wheels of all my 2005 - 2010 Revell mustang kits so I can use better tires on them. doing custom body work on a few resin masters, and such. I'n a way model building is getting me through a very tough time. I also wanted to thank all of you who through facebook have offered words of encouragement and prayers. It has meant a lot to Me and my family.
62rebel Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 (sincere hand on the shoulder) think nothing of it, bud. this too shall pass.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 John Lennon said it best: whatever gets you through the night, it's all right, it's all right. Art, crafts, and hobbies are wonderful healers. They DO help ou come through some very tough moments.
mikemodeler Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Hopefully Darin the modelbuilding allows you to take your mind off of your wife's condition and bring some peace to you during what has to be an incredibly diificult time. I know when I am feeling stressed out from life a few minutes or hours spent working at the bench helps clear my mind and rejuvenates me to get back to life and its challenges. Please know that many of us here still have you and your family in our prayers and thoughts. Thank you for sharing with us and let us know what we can do to help.
Rob McKee Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Hi Darin, I am very sorry to hear about your wife. I find model building to be relaxing. It allows my to direct my creative energy onto a canvas of plastic. I do find it tougher to do when I am under extreme stress because I have a lack of focus. The important thing to keep in mind while you are experiencing this difficult time is to take some time for yourself as well. Sounds like you do so by modelling which is great. Rob
Tonioseven Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Darin, you fit my definition of a "hero"; for that, I applaud you.
Darin Bastedo Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 Darin, you fit my definition of a "hero"; for that, I applaud you. A hero is just a guy who does what needs to be done, when it needs to be done. My strength certainly doesn't come from me. I take one day at a time, and each situation I get through prepares me for the next.
scummy Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 When i was in my mid teens i started driving semi trailers interstate with an overnight freight company and i saw some horrible accidents which started to affect my moods and emotions . So the doctor said i gota get a hobby, so i took up model trucks ,when i went back he asked how the hobby thing was going so i told him i'm doing model trucks ! He went off saying that the hobby was suppose to take my mind off trucks and work !!!! Well that was in 1976 and i'm still addicted to model trucks . Hope your wife gets better mate all the best to you and your family .
