Fabrux Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Just wondering if anyone has seen or if it would even be rational to have a flat-top LoneStar. Basically it would look like older style Western Stars that kinda look like a day cab with a sleeper added. I hate the look of the Lone-and ProStars with those huge fairings on them... but I was pleased to notice in the kit and seeing some builds here that it looks a lot better without the upper fairing on. I got the idea in my head to chop it all off but it probably wouldn't look so great...thoughts?
jekylljr Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 How big of a flat top bunk do u want? either way u could cut down the lonestar bunk wud b a lot of work but worth itand unique even a 36" bunk would look sweet have fun with it
cowboysevens Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 sounds neat , also sounds like alot of work. i imagine you could base it off of the 90's style they had i think it was the 9900 series. would be interesting to see for sure. have fun and keep us posted please
Chad Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Im actually mocking up a 36" bunk for my prostar cab when it comes out.....talk about alot of work! Chad
Fabrux Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 Basically all I would do is cut the cab like so... But then the sleeper would just look weird. I think I'll just end up building without the upper fairing.
Chad Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 If you did it right you could section the top and keep the upper radiuses and it would looks alright, only way to find out is try lol Chad
lapazleo Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Look up the 56" flat top sleeper option for the Prostar on truckpaper.com as the Prostar uses the same basic cab. It is a single flat top bunk but at this time it is not an option on the Lonestar. Would make a neat what if project though.
BigBad Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) How about this? This is the flatest it gets: I bet it's not pretty seen from an overpass. It looks like the hole the high roof left has been plugged with a fiberglass insert... Edited January 26, 2012 by Z06Bob
lapazleo Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 That's it, sorry not puter savy enough to post pictures.
Chad Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 That would looks awesome as a lonestar with stacks and breathers and chicken lights with about a 275" wheelbase Chad
BigBad Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Yep, looks like all you have to do is saw the sleeper sides down, then plug the thing up with some styrene plate and square sections along the edges then round it off by sanding.
Chad Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Hmmmmm.....I need a bar sander with a tunnel edge this will bed my next lonestar build! For sure! Chad
lapazleo Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Then put a nice Moebius Great Dane reefer coverted to spread axle behind it. Ah just got an idea for one of my Lonestars.
lapazleo Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 If you notice there's a raised ridge on top very much like the flat top pro sleeper on the 9000 series trucks also this bunk is shorter as it is meant for regional and weight sensative applications.
Fabrux Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 Now that looks cool! I bet the LoneStar's fairing could be cut down to cover that hole...
