The Creative Explorer Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Since this is a modelkit version, I would assume it will come unpainted. Usually HLJ will also mention if something is prepainted. I still have not decided whether to but htis kit or not, it is still a lot of money for another Enzo kit.
Cato Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Your point on value may be true Erik but I don't own any other Enzos so it would be worth it to me. A Tamiya experience is seldom a disappointment. I agree with your assessment of paint finish-it doesn't say on their site but the finished model is always shown red (12047).
The Creative Explorer Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 I have built so far 2 Revell Enzo''s, working on a Tamiya Enzo and will convert a FXX into a 250LM tribute (like the P4/5), so I had already my share of enzo''s. And that is where I start to doubt of purchasing the kit. The Enzo isn''t the prettiest car, neither is it a very legendary car, so the only reason for me to buy it, is the kit itself. And I have bought already a couple of kits where I don''t really like the car, but do like the kit. For example a Wingnut Wings Pfzalz airplane, I could care less about airplanes (modelkits), but the kit itself is quite intrueging. And there we are at the crossroad, even though it is a amazing detailled kit, I find it overpriced. Plus it isn''t my most favourite subject, so I am left in a dilemma. On the color of the finished model: It is a Ferrari, how big is the chance you will see a red one?
Cato Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 I have the very same reservations that you do Erik. If I buy it, it will be for the build enjoyment of the Tammy kit. The Enzo is a somewhat mediocre supercar by current standards. If this kit were a McLaren F1 or Veyron I would surely buy. Both those are aesthetically and technically more interesting to me. I think black overall would improve the Enzo a bit. Make all those joins, moldings and shutlines disappear.
The Creative Explorer Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 McLaren: yes, Veyron... naah not so much. Technically a piece of wonder, but I don''t like the design and marketing. I would''ve liked a Pagani Zonda, Lamborghini Aventador or the Ferrari 'F70' (the new F-series car that will be announced in 2013). Black would be a very nice color, the Enzo does look good in it. My 1/24th Enzo is going to be blue with a single white stripe over the middle, as tribute to the 250GTO's that raced.
Cato Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Hmmmmm. The McLaren F1... Done as diecasts but to my knowledge not a kit-certainly not 1/12. Can't be 'licensing' - so many McLaren race cars in 1/12 and 1/20. Technical interest: mid-mounted driver, gull doors, BMW power, and still beautiful form and proportions to this day. I'd pay $300 for that gladly.
Ghostmech Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 (edited) Got my shipping notice from HLJ that my new Enzo is sent.....total cost is about $330.00 shipped...not bad since the original list price was set at over $600 (before shipping). I'll post up some pics of the kit in the box when I get it. So now when are the after market guys gonna do some super detail sets so this thing can be taken to the next level.....Scale Motorsports? Model Factory Hiro? KA Models? anyone? Edited March 29, 2012 by Ghostmech
Pete J. Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 Got notice that mine has shipped also. Look forward to getting my hands on it. Should be here on monday or tuesday according to the shipping tacker. I'm so excited..... Hmmm, could be the liric to a good song.
Art Laski Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 (edited) Nice, Pete. Hopefully you'll bring it to an OC meeting when I'm there. Would love to see what you get for that price from Tamiya. -Art Edited March 30, 2012 by Art Laski

Mine arrived in the US yesterday.....don't know how long it will take to get from NY to Mississippi since there isn't a projected delivery date on the EMS tracking. Did you get a delivery date?

Did you get a delivery date? Mine shipped FedEx and has a delivery date of Tomorrow, but the tracker says it is in town now but doesn't show out for delivery. The tracking is one of the main reasons I ship FedEx. Slightly pricier, but I like the convenience.

pharr7226 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 What is the likelihood that the value of this kit will appreciate over time? Just curious.
Pete J. Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 What is the likelihood that the value of this kit will appreciate over time? Just curious. ###### shoot at best. It really depends upon how many are made and who wants them. I don't ever buy a kit as an investment(well maybe a couple of Tamiya/SMS 956's). I buy them because I am intersted in building the car. That way I am never dissappointed. Watch Antiques Road show some time. Consistant advise, "Buy what you like."
