Stephen H Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Well the last time I put any kits together was about 15 years ago when I was 14. Back then I didnt care about making everything look so clean so I would just grab some of my favroite muscle cars and slap them together just like the instructions said. I had no idea about all the work i could have doen to make them look so clean ( ie seamlines and vehicle stance ). Seeing the work that everyone on this forum has inspired me to get back into the hobby and build them like they should be built. I am not looking for full out customizing right now but the small things that make the OOB cars just look so clean. I was wondering what books and/or videos out there the community recommends for me getting into the hobby properly. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated. BTW thanks everyone so far for the info given on the other topics I had going.
heatride Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Check Donn's DVDs out they are really great , and Dr.Cranky also . http://oldmansmodels.com/ http://www.doctorcrankyslabratory.com/
sjordan2 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 There's a wealth of information here... http://www.italianhorses.net/Tutorials/tutorials.htm I'm sure there are plenty of members here who can direct you to other information, such as basic plumbing and wiring, etc.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Stephen, check out books by Terry Jesse, Pat Covert, Ken Hamilton, Bob Downey, Bill Coulter, and a few others. Sometimes the books will be out of print and the prices on line way too high, but keep an eye out in your public libraries, schools, and also USED book stores. Donn's DVDs are a MUST-HAVE item! You can also check out the community on YOUTUBE. Lot's of great HOW-Tos there.
Stephen H Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Thanks everyone for the info. I will look into all that was mentioned
Stephen H Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) Doc I have been watching your Airbrush basics videos and they are awesome. Thank you for the vids as they are insanely helpful. Will be watching them all and then some. BTW, I have a Badger 200 right now do you think that will be ok for now? Edited February 4, 2012 by Stephen H
Dr. Cranky Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Also, if you are interested in WEATHERING/RUSTING your vehicles, there are lots of books and magazines that deal with military subject matter where you can pick up all sorts of BREAK-THROUGH techniques.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Two people whose work you might want to check out (they both have several books) are Shep Payne and Francois Verlinden. Both military builders, but they are two of the most influential builders in military modeling. Of course, of the new folks, you have to check out the work of Mike Rinaldi, Mig Jimenez, Marc Reusser, and Bob Ferreira. And there are many more. Many of them all over Europe and Japan are building model cars now too . . . It's just a great big hobby. Styrene Addictions run deep.
MikeMc Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I have Donn Yosts DVD and Both of Bob Downies airbrush books..as these are for the car modeler and painter. then Doc cranky starts a you tube channel and has a huge number of free videos and links....sit down on a cold day and keep the chill away!
