'08SEAL Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) Just added all the little details on the Boss 429 so I needed something to do. I got this kit for Christmas. I painted it GM Bright Aqua. Very detailed kit. But molded in orange, seriously? The wheels are from the Revell 1970 Boss 429. All critisisms and praises appreciated. Haubenschild Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Nice job on the paint! , but those wheels arent my style . but its your model , so do anything you want
BigFreshy Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 i actually bought this kit and wasn't in love with it because of all the orange good luck
Olskoolrodder Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I just picked one of these (orange, like yours) up recently. Nice color choice, smooooth too!
'08SEAL Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 I didn't really like the rims either Hauben. The only reason I used those was because I couldn't find the tires to the kit. I found them in my spare parts bin. I finished the wheels and I hated them all silver like on the box art. I detailed some black and painted the Chevy logo gold. The decals are from the AMT 1961 Ford Galaxie.
Guest Dr. Odyssey Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 It looks like you have a good even coat of paint. Did you use any clear coat? If so you could sand and polish out that orange peel a bit for a deep shine. Maybe the orange plastic is bleeding through as "peel"? LOL - Shake & Bake! At least the engine was molded in the right color.......

Harry P. Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Almost all parts of a model get painted anyway, so what's the difference what color plastic it's molded in?
Guest Dr. Odyssey Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 The engine wasn't modled in red, I painted it. Yeah, I used clear coat. What grit of sandpaper for the peel? Ironically the correct stock engine color is (Chevy) Orange, not red. I start with 1000 grit wet-N-dry and use it wet. Go slow! Check your progress often and be careful around high points so you dont sand through. Then go up to 1200, 1500, 2000 (ALWAYS wet). Then I use polishing compound and then wax.
Haubenschild Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Also make sure you clear coat it lane! , the paint seems to look metallic.
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Looking good so far. I like the choice of color for the body. I feel your pain with the orange parts. I have a Revell McLaren Mustang and its all orange also. In the grand scheme of things nothing a quick shot of primer won't fix. I look forward to seeing more of your build
