Ira Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 (edited) Ira, I figure you're just making stuff look the way it should....right? That's true Don, but whats "looks right" seems to change each time I build this kit... Edited March 6, 2012 by Ira
Ira Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) MUD on the BODY! By the time I got through sanding there weren't too many gaps to fill, so I used a little Squadron Putty on the rough areas. Oh No, more sanding... Edited March 7, 2012 by Ira
Ira Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Good work on the trim. This thing is going to look so good, Ira. Thank You Dr.! I've been looking at Off Road Truck photos all day and... I was wondering what to put in the bed...Now I know! I just decided to build a Rear-Engine Ranchero!!! Back to the Work Bench...
Ira Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Cool! Any idea on the colors? Thanks Lane! I haven't decided on colors, any suggestions?
Dr. Cranky Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 You got a lot of much on that puppy. Can't wait to see it smooth and ready to take on the paint.
Ira Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 GETTIN ER SMOOTH!!! Sanded some more with 220 & 320 Sandpaper...
Ira Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 GOT PRIMER!!! Here is the Ranchero's first coat of Duplicolor Filler/Primer...
Dr. Cranky Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 It's coming together . . . now a bit more smoothing and you should have it. Go, Ira, go!
Joker Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Thanks for the update.. your Dave Wheels builds take me back

Ira Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) BEEN HUNTIN!!! I've been Hunting through many kits looking for the Perfect Engine & Roll Bar for the Ranchero. *FOUND a 429 FORD V-8 in the '70 Mustang kit! BIG Engine with Dual 4-Barrel Carbs on High Rise Manifold. This BIG 429 is going in the pick-up bed, The RANCHERO is Mid-Engined Now!!! *I also found a Great Double Roll Bar in the Bigfoot Kit, but it's too big for Ranchero. I have another Roll Bar that I willl probably use... Edited March 9, 2012 by Ira
Crazy Ed Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Hi There Ira If you're not of the "Bow tie's and Blue Ovals can NEVER coexist" group you might look around for a Aerovette Kit. Remove the Chevy engine from the rear suspention and mount your Ford to it for a Sidewinder midengine setup. Heck the front suspention parts aren't bad either! No Matter, You've got a Fun Build going on there!
Chuck Most Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 To me, it's begging for a larger scale engine, maybe something like 1:20 or something pirated from an MPC Zinger. But a big old 429 would be cool, too.
Ira Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Thanks for the update.. your Dave Wheels builds take me back Thank You James!

But a big old 429 would be cool, too. Thanks for the Suggestions Chuck! I tried a 1/16th scale HEMI in the back & it really filled the bed...but it was too much... I'm still looking but it's going to be hard to beat a BOSS 429 FORD!!!
Ira Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 MAKING the BED... Now that I am Installing a 429 BOSS FORD V-8 in the rear, I need a base for the Engine & Roll Bar. I made the new Pick Up Bed with Sheet Plastic. I also extended the Hood Scoop with a very thin piece of sheet plastic. Added a little more putty...
Modelmartin Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Looks like a lot of fun, Ira. Inspires me to maybe build a Deal's Wheels style Bugatti! The MPC Dune Buggy Zinger has a 1/20 scale Boss 429 in it, if that fits the bill for you.

I'll have to take a look at the Zinger BOSS 429... Thanks again!
Alyn Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Looks like you're on your way to another winner. Very clever take on the Ranchero. I'm looking forward to seeing this one in the mock-up stage.
