jerseyjunker1 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 this is a project i am doing for a friend in california. when complete and i can't say as to when that will be as i am doing it in my spare time will be a diorama in 24th scale of the ambush and murder of bonnie and clyde as it happened. here are a few pics of what is being done.this will take longer to do as i am doing two at the same time.the actual car is a 1934 ford four door sedan with a potters trunk on the back. in order to do this i 24th scale i will be using a franklin mint 1933 ford tudor sedan dillinger car. i will turn the two door into a four door and do a few mods to give it the right look using what parts i can find and making some. i painted the body of one of the cars in primer gray to make it easy to see where i may be putting the bullet holes. the dio will be complete with figures. i will post pics as i can on the project but it will be awhile.the first three pictures are the actual car with the bodies inside and is what the model should look like when done.i have no clue when i will finish.
Mr.Zombie Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Great stuff! I have a suggestion. Long time ago, when I was still building military stuff, I made a diorama including an abandoned VW Bug that was pierced with bullet holes. As you can see in the pic, there are dents where the bullets went in, to achieve that, just dremel them in with a round head (I have no idea how it is called in english, you know, all those fittings you have for a dremel, there are all kinds of things, one of them being a round ball on top of a stick) over the bullet holes. Make some of them just slight, others a bit deeper. Then paint the body in any metal color yo desire, let it dry, use maskol (you know, that pink stuff you buy in a hobby store, or latex) and just tap very small amount over the holes so that it sticks to the edge of the hole. I used a toothpick that I dipped in maskol, and just pressed it in each hole, when you take it out again, a small amount of it will stay on the edge, repeat when neccesary. After that paint the body. If you scrap the maskol off with a scalpel by pulling the mask, it will tear the edges, and the result is a genuine bullet hole that is as realistic as it can be!
Joker Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I'm following your build Manny.. people always put extra umph when building for others..Aesops fables the shoemakers kids or something like that
jerseyjunker1 Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 spent the day yesterday making the back window posts and drilling bullet holes in the death car. i used a small dremel bit for the actual hole the a slightly larger drill bit for the dent the bullet makes when it hets the metal. i am building two at the same time as a spare time project and i will post more as i go along.
62rebel Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 great work so far, but with all this effort, don't you intend to correct the door length? there is a definite difference visible in the length of the tudor doors versus fordor doors. the car also can't be "aged" too much, even with the bullet damage, as it was nearly new when the ambush occurred. Clyde had several weapons in the car within easy reach; he was not unprepared to throw down on anyone. Ranger Hamer got the "drop" on them with their guard down using known friends.
jerseyjunker1 Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 absolutly Curt. these shots are just the start and are basicaly mock ups that will change as i go. i have numerous pictures of the actual car that i am using. the posts are just wood that will be removed later. it will also be a complete diorama scene just after the ambush.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Looking forward to seeing more of this one. Great subject matter.
moparmagiclives Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 This is something else ! What are you using to rejoin the parts? I have to ask though, who asks for a diorama of this type of thing? Is it for a musiam type display? Those models your using dont come cheap do they? Doesnt anyone make a 33/34 in plastic? Cant wait to see more.
kruleworld Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 interesting project. i've wanted to do this one since seeing on on the internet (very well done imo). Looks like you've got it all in hand. i did the bullets with two drill bits. a small drill for the hole and a large bit to do the 'impact damage'
Jon Cole Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I remember about ten years ago or so, someone from Canada's Globe25 club came down to our Classic Plastic Show which was in Salem, NH that year. They did the Bonnie & Clyde death car. I will see if I can find the pics.
