jayhkr Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Ok, so I just got done with my first build in over 20 years and boy was that a trip down memory lane for me. My dad and I used to build these together and I remember how much fun we had. Well one thing that plagued me then is still plaguing me now. Attaching the body to the chassis. I have the dardest time getting the engine in the engine bay, the frame to attach to the chassis that attaches under the body. It seems everything gives me fits. Is there a tip, trick or magic word I need to use or say to make this easier? Also, how do you guys work with the small parts, like the door handles, mirrors, windshield wipers, etc.... I have small hands but I can never seem to get them to stick where I want them to. I'm really looking forward to my next build, choices choices choices. What will I choose.
jayhkr Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Thanks guys. I did test fit originally, but that was before I mounted the engine to the chassis. THAT'S where I need to be better at is continuously test fitting all the time after I add something to what would go in the engine bay. I'll look into those hemostats. Where did you get yours from, regular pharmacy?
MrObsessive Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 This is one of the key reasons I've suggested in the past, painting your body LATER than before assembly! I recommend building everything up first, then painting your body after you've figured out the ins and outs of fitting the body with the least drama. I know it's easier to paint the body first, but trust me-------you'll save yourself a LOT of headaches (and heartaches) if you get the assemblies done first, then as the engine, interior and chassis are coming along------you're test fitting the body the whole time. When it's to your satisfaction, then paint the body. You can always start on another project while the paint is drying----------at least when it's all done and polished out, you'll have figured out how to get the body on without ruining a good paint job with gouges, scratches, etc.
jayhkr Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Good tip there. All this will be utilized on my next build. Thank you!
