I always wanted build the r model mack amt kit.I recently purchased 2 kits off evil bay so i was trying to decide what to with them. One i am going to make into the convoy rubber duck mack! I believe they are amt r-685 not sure if thats correct?? When i was a teen i built the ertl version which is so incorrect even the decals are wrong the sleepers is incorrect its a u-600 with the cab favoring the left the hoods way to short spoke wheels etc !! Cant belive what people pay for these on evil bay??lol But anyway i am going to build this correctly alot of fab work etc.The other mack i might make it into a lowboy tractor or i might stretch it put a condo on it dunno??

The RD truck was a RS700L. The hood is longer than the R600 that's in the AMT kit. The only way to make a true RD truck is to go with resin, and don't know of anyone making one right now.

Would have to scratch the sleeper to. It's a 60" able body stand up sleeper. You can get the demensions for it here.

I know someone that sold his sealed Rubber Duck kit on ebay and got an unbelievable $800.00 + for it.

You're right! these people are sick! i guess that's why round 2 caught on and said, "we could do these for 1/4 the price." I hope they keep reproducing these models. I want to pick up a transtar cabover next, but I don't want to second mortgage my house. My local hobby shop has an original 359 California hauler for $70, man I guess that's a steal?

i always wondered what motor the real duck actually had in it. in one scene when its comming down the road through the desert. it sounds like it has a detroit. then another scene is at nite. when he's in that park or rest area. he starts the truck and it sounds like a cummins. does anybody know what motor was in it?

Craig, there's a mob in the States that sells the R700 bonnet for the Mack later on this morning I'll hunt down my old catalog from them and put the name up here for ya unless someone beats me to it.

Dave at AITM has a R700 kit, but it's out of stock, been that way for a while.

I'd like to find just the hood myself. I've got a donor for the rest of it.

Check out my Google Sketchup RD up in the Artwok section. As accurate as I couold get from pics and in sketchup to scale. Also has the trailmobile Tanker. So does anyone produce the tanker? Trailmobile 5800 gal 1960 model?

Posted

Dave sent me the pics, i have one on it's way. $169, bets paying the stupid prices wanted for a very inaccurate ERTL kit.

Not too bad, all things considered. And, yes, it does beat the eBay price for the Ertl kit. It looks like a great kit.
