pete3522 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) I always wanted build the r model mack amt kit.I recently purchased 2 kits off evil bay so i was trying to decide what to with them. One i am going to make into the convoy rubber duck mack! I believe they are amt r-685 not sure if thats correct?? When i was a teen i built the ertl version which is so incorrect even the decals are wrong the sleepers is incorrect its a u-600 with the cab favoring the left the hoods way to short spoke wheels etc !! Cant belive what people pay for these on evil bay??lol But anyway i am going to build this correctly alot of fab work etc.The other mack i might make it into a lowboy tractor or i might stretch it put a condo on it dunno?? caboverkw Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) The RD truck was a RS700L. The hood is longer than the R600 that's in the AMT kit. The only way to make a true RD truck is to go with resin, and don't know of anyone making one right now. Would have to scratch the sleeper to. It's a 60" able body stand up sleeper. You can get the demensions for it here. http://www.stlouisdu...ck/Sleeper.html Edited March 11, 2012 by caboverkw
pete3522 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 cool kw i actually had those specs on my old comp but i lost the info when i bought the new on e ty
pete3522 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 I have another pic somewhere of a actual b-61 mack restored with a 110" condo on it looks awesome
pete3522 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) justin heres the actual pictures of this kit not sure if you ever saw this or built it it actually uses the sleeper of the ertl international 4300 eagle hard to believe people pay over $200.00 plus for this on evil bay NOW LOOK AT THE REAL MACK IS THIS EVEN CLOSE?? ? Edited March 11, 2012 by pete3522
pete3522 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) even as a teen i was upset with this build its off by a mile the only thing close is the bumper and the grill and hood ornament lol It looks like someone put it in the crusher and shrunk it compared to the real deal Edited March 11, 2012 by pete3522

pete3522 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Justin have you built this ertl version of the rd mack??
EmeryvilleCOE Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I know someone that sold his sealed Rubber Duck kit on ebay and got an unbelievable $800.00 + for it. You're right! these people are sick! i guess that's why round 2 caught on and said, "we could do these for 1/4 the price." I hope they keep reproducing these models. I want to pick up a transtar cabover next, but I don't want to second mortgage my house. My local hobby shop has an original 359 California hauler for $70, man I guess that's a steal?
cappy625 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 i always wondered what motor the real duck actually had in it. in one scene when its comming down the road through the desert. it sounds like it has a detroit. then another scene is at nite. when he's in that park or rest area. he starts the truck and it sounds like a cummins. does anybody know what motor was in it?
caboverkw Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) There were 4 diffrent trucks used during filming, most had cummins in them. I think there was one that had a mack engine. Hollywood liked the way the detroit sounded and replaced the sound. you can find all kinds of info at this site. http://www.stlouisdu...ruck/index.html Edited March 11, 2012 by caboverkw
Dingo5162 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Craig, there's a mob in the States that sells the R700 bonnet for the Mack later on this morning I'll hunt down my old catalog from them and put the name up here for ya unless someone beats me to it. Dingo
caboverkw Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Dave at AITM has a R700 kit, but it's out of stock, been that way for a while. I'd like to find just the hood myself. I've got a donor for the rest of it.
caboverkw Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Sourkraut has one posted on his site, but it show's out of stock http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=6&product_id=267

Jim B Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) I cannot even imagine how much that would cost. Where did you get the pics? A little help: Edited March 12, 2012 by Jim B
ARTEMIS1759 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Check out my Google Sketchup RD up in the Artwok section. As accurate as I couold get from pics and in sketchup to scale. Also has the trailmobile Tanker. So does anyone produce the tanker? Trailmobile 5800 gal 1960 model?
Yahshu Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Dave sent me the pics, i have one on it's way. $169, bets paying the stupid prices wanted for a very inaccurate ERTL kit.
Jim B Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Not too bad, all things considered. And, yes, it does beat the eBay price for the Ertl kit. It looks like a great kit.
pete3522 Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 k thanx! I looked on sauerkrauts before everything always says out of stock
