GrandpaMcGurk Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Before someone says "Hey, that doesn't belong in under glass 'cause it isn't finished!" YES IT IS! What I set out to do was depict an ol' school rod that was under construction....it'll be in tow (on the way to the paint and body shop) behind a '40 ford pickup. Can't post build pics of the '40 as it's a F.A.S.T. members build off that we are supposed to keep under wraps 'til club display day. Anyhow, here's a few shots for you to run your orbs over.......
Ryan S. Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Nice job making it look like a work in progress. I'm sure it will look great behind the truck.
Johnag4004 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 That looks great, love seeing the crank, may I ask what you are going to be towing it with please...
Sam Cates Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Hey, that doesn't belong under glass, it isn't finished! Very cool, I like the engine detail and the empty cab!

Dr. Cranky Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I love the way it's looking, Grandpa. Keep it going.
Bartster Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Cool project. I think you should cheat & show us the truck too!??!!
GrandpaMcGurk Posted March 18, 2012 Author Posted March 18, 2012 Cool project. I think you should cheat & show us the truck too!??!! Oh Noooooo Bart, can't do that. I can say however it's way outside the box.....and yes Jim it will be shiny!
GrandpaMcGurk Posted March 18, 2012 Author Posted March 18, 2012 Missed ya at Billetproof, Don. I had planned on attending Jim, I hardly ever miss one of Don's shows. The last time I went I drove that $80,000 black Hemi Roadrunner for show and tell. I still have stretch marks on my face....man that car could pull some G's. Anyway...I'm crawling around on all fours right now battling a wicked chest cold.......just couldn't muster up enough steam to attend.
Terry Sumner Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Since the car is going to be towed I would do 2 things to it. I would add an oil pan and then make some kind of cover or tarp to put over the engine. It just seems logical to cover these areas as towing it wide open like this would likely ruin the engine. Unless that engine is just there for a mock up..... The tarp would be easy...just dilute some white glue and apply it to some tissue paper. Lay it on the engine so it conforms to the shape of the engine. Then when it's dry, paint it like a tarp. Add some "rope" to tie it down and it's done!. Just a suggestion...
GrandpaMcGurk Posted March 18, 2012 Author Posted March 18, 2012 Great suggestions Terry, however, it's just an old worn out shop 50's Caddy engine that is in dire need of a total rebuild. It's there simply to check fit and clearances.
crazyjim Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Get better soon, Don. We have a meeting on April 7.
