surfjunke Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) The Ferrari Daytona used in the Miani Vice TV series was a kit car that fit on a Corvette. The company that made the kit was Trend international. The cars were built by Tom McBurnie of Thunder Valley. Tom worked for Trend International building, modifying & repairing Ferraris. He also helped develope the Daytona kit. He is still building cars today in his Thunder Valley shop. So, for this custom, I did not modify a real Ferrari Daytona. I found an old tired Vette & purchased the kit. Acually, this is built from an old record 1/43 resin kit. First was those resin wheels, goodbye! I used a set of BBR etched wire wheels & some low profile race tires from the parts bin. The brakes are from Machined Aluminum Specialties. They are very nice, but too big for 1/43. The inside of the body was ground out so the car could be lowered. The axle slots were also modified for the new stance. The front & rear spoilers are from Evergreen plastic. The roll bar is also from Evergreen rod. The interior received belts made from an aluminum wine bottle foil & etch hardware from the etched bin. The steering wheel is a 4 piece kit from Renaisanse. The dash gages were from a Verage decal sheet, removed with a punch & die set. Paint is auto acrylic laquer primer. A base coat of tamiya white was followed by a mixed Tamiya yellow. Dupont 2 part clear finished the body. The hardest part was the windshield. It took 5 tries to get one to fit properly. I finally made a new master & vac formed it. She is finally done. It was challanging, a lot of fun & I am very happy with the Daytona. Edited April 5, 2012 by surfjunke
Scale-Master Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Very cool! (But it still has the Daytona windshield, not a Corvette's.) It has a great '80s vintage look to it. Well done!
