Dr. Cranky Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 If you've had any experience with this airbrush, please comment. I am interested to know what you think of it, those of you who have actually sprayed with one. Thank you in advance for your comment. My goal is to use it as a primer, sealer coat, clear coat sprayer.
MikeMc Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Hey Doc.....My 1:1 painter has one and uses it for large graphics on motorcycles...I've tried it twice and used it for clearing. I did a plaque with decals and wanted to shoot clear over it...worked sweet with the fan tip. It was wide If I remember about a 4" wide pass at low pressure (22psi)....I like the trigger, but it is different than an A/B more like a detail gun.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 Mike, that sounds about right. I think it puts out more volume so it's perfect for clear.
CadillacPat Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) I appreciate the precision of all my Iwata's. The gun here is actually a 3/4 oz cup, .5 mm tip, still large enough for clearing most models up to 1/18 scale. While it is great for priming, basecoating and clearing scale models it is more intended for laying down large graphics or cutting in jams, hence the larger paint cup and the price. I have no problem with the $402 price from Coast AirBrush (I don't even know if Dixie Art carries it) but for priming and clearing large areas you can also try the Paasche Talon (also available with fan tip) that you can buy with a .66 tip and 3/4oz. cup for $72. More flow and more paint. I use my Anthem or Talon for priming and clearing on everything, even large plaques I have made for charities. I like to lay down color coats with my Iwatas or even my Badger 100LG. Your video was nice and clear without the usual ummms and ahhhs of people stammering through unprepared thoughts. Dr. Cranky Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 Thanks for the great information, Pat. Much appreciated.
RobRus Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 This is the gun I use most of the time for small jobs. It is a DeVilbiss EGA-503-390F Touch up gun. I use to do a lot of 1:1 custom painting and this was my gun of choice for even small details. Mine is an older model but is identical to this one. I have 3 tips that range from about 6" down to about 2" fan. The beauty of this gun is the knob in the back controls the paint flow and the side knob controls the fan so with my small tip and needle I can get down to almost the same pattern as my Paasche with the large tip and needel. If what you have is anything close to this one I think you will love it and your airbrush will only get used when you want very fine detail.
