JasonFL Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 So I've decided to build a rat rod with my 32 5 window ford. I wanted to build a web grill with a skull head for the front. I didn't have any slim sticks of plastic so I'm using paper clips instead. My question is...how can I mount it in the actual grill shell? Glue it together or should I just glue the actual paper clip pieces ontop of the actual grill to give it a 3d kinda look. If anyone has any ideas please throw them out there, anything will help. Thanks Here a couple of pics. It's just a rough web with a skull head I got from an old ear ring
jamesG Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Cool idea. I like the idea of the grill as a backdrop. Although you might want to play around with the position of the skull. To me it kinda looks like the queen from the aliens movie. No offense.
JunkPile Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Just a suggestion but smaller guage wire may be easier to play with.
JasonFL Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 It's actually not hard to work with. I'm using all the curves that were already made by the paper clip, I do have smaller clips but I still don't know how to attach it to the grill shell.
JunkPile Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 super glue? Just at joints and points where web meets grill shell?

To me it kinda looks like the queen from the aliens movie. No offense. None taken. I've actually never seen the movies so I went and tried to find a picture but I didn't really see the resemblance. I was thinking it would make a cool backdrop and give the wire some support.
JasonFL Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 super glue? Just at joints and points where web meets grill shell? That's what i was thinking, but do you think it will have enough support or should I use the grill as a backdrop/support?
jamesG Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 If you left the post on the skull you can drill a small hole in the grill (the part you drew on) an glue the post into that. Another option might be to cut out the inside of the where you drew make the web so it fits in snug from the back side (but pushed all the post way forward ) then glue the grill in behind that. The web and skull would have to be one piece though. Soldering it together would help. I've never tried this though so not sure it will work. Also you could heat a piece of sprue an stretch it to form the web. Good luck and post some pics when you're done should look cool. I might try something similar on my 49old chevy.
JunkPile Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 You may just have to mess around with it to see what will work the best
Joker Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I would go with stretched sprue heated over a candle or a lighter glue and paint
