Western Star

Can the Western Star kit that is avalible be build as a day-cab, or does it need a conversion kit to be able to do that? Thanks in advance..

The Italeri Western Star, the 4900 and 5964 do need a rear cab panel that is not included in the kit to convert it to a day cab. Auslowe makes it. Kit Form Services offers it or possible Sourkraut has restocked it.

Italeri Western Stars need the conversion piece.

The AMT White-Western Star does not.

Each kit represents a different model and year (and style and time era). The Italeri will be the easiest.

No, but a Russian modeler modified the Italeri 5964 hood to a 4900 hood. With some effort you could do the same.

I wouldn't say Italeri kits are superior just different. Remember the AMT kit is nearly 40 years old .

I would love to see the Italeri WS with a newer hood - the Consetllation was short-lived. I do see them on the road occasionally.

Agreed! And I would love to see AMT offer a new Western Star, Mack, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, but that ain't happening!

In some respects 40 year old cars are superior to new ones. In reality the AMT kit is more accurate than Italeri's. At the time AMT's kit came out it was state of the art, more so than Italeri's. Like Tim said two different eras and two different models of WS . But we are way off topic here. Perhaps a thread discussing kit brands makes more sense. Who makes the best kit is subjective and there is never gonna be agreement on one brand. Still an interesting discussion.

Yea western stars are great trucks, pops is 4964FX with a C-12 kitty under the hood and an 18 speed. Ain't the fastest out there but she pulls like a bulldozer.
