SBourget Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Can the Western Star kit that is avalible be build as a day-cab, or does it need a conversion kit to be able to do that? Thanks in advance..
pete3522 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 it builds either way No it doesnt need a conversion kit has the small rear window and has a one piece glass
navistar Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 do yoy mean italeri western star or amt. amt would have crawl through sleeper .italeri would have walk through and need conversion
pete3522 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 yeah good point forgot about the itareli one i was thinken the amt one i just built one of those as a day cab
chuckyr Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) The Italeri Western Star, the 4900 and 5964 do need a rear cab panel that is not included in the kit to convert it to a day cab. Auslowe makes it. Kit Form Services offers it or possible Sourkraut has restocked it. http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=7&product_id=57 Edited April 16, 2012 by chuckyr
mackinac359 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Italeri Western Stars need the conversion piece. The AMT White-Western Star does not. Tim
SBourget Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the info. Which kit is better to build? Edited April 16, 2012 by SBourget
mackinac359 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Each kit represents a different model and year (and style and time era). The Italeri will be the easiest.
SBourget Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Thanks. One more quick question, is this hood avalible?
chuckyr Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) No, but a Russian modeler modified the Italeri 5964 hood to a 4900 hood. With some effort you could do the same. http://forum.autoinscale.com/viewtopic.php?id=1901 Edited April 17, 2012 by chuckyr
lapazleo Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I wouldn't say Italeri kits are superior just different. Remember the AMT kit is nearly 40 years old .
pete3522 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 yeah i got the western star itareli one in the rd mack lot i bought off evilbay its nice but i wouldnt say superior lol
chuckyr Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I wouldn't say Italeri kits are superior just different. Remember the AMT kit is nearly 40 years old . I would say they are superior. Would you say a 40 year old car is equal to a car today or just different.
mackinac359 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I would love to see the Italeri WS with a newer hood - the Consetllation was short-lived. I do see them on the road occasionally. Tim

Tim Agreed! And I would love to see AMT offer a new Western Star, Mack, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, but that ain't happening! Edited April 18, 2012 by chuckyr
chuckyr Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Hey Anthony, how about this one. Minus the sleeper for you.
lapazleo Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 In some respects 40 year old cars are superior to new ones. In reality the AMT kit is more accurate than Italeri's. At the time AMT's kit came out it was state of the art, more so than Italeri's. Like Tim said two different eras and two different models of WS . But we are way off topic here. Perhaps a thread discussing kit brands makes more sense. Who makes the best kit is subjective and there is never gonna be agreement on one brand. Still an interesting discussion.
jacobus Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 i have see today a amt reissued white western star about july must he comes on the market price 44,95$ so for the lovers of old models of amt jacobus
freightshaker Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yea western stars are great trucks, pops is 4964FX with a C-12 kitty under the hood and an 18 speed. Ain't the fastest out there but she pulls like a bulldozer.
mackinac359 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Both ! Now the "hard" part, forward axle or set back? LOL
chuckyr Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Moebius Great Dane Reefer and new Italeri Western Star?
