lou s Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 i know this isnt a drag car but i know everyone here uses dirtmodelers awesome drag parts...............i just finished up a usac car and i used the brass rim centers from dirtmodeler.....the rim center needed to look aluminum so i painted them with alclad.from the pics they look ok but in person they look painted so i bought micro marks plating system and gave it a shot.........here is what i came up with.on the right is the brass p.e. sheet and on the left is the same sheet plated in crome(it still needs to be pollished).and the rim on the car is painted alclad..........looks pretty good if you ask me.i highly recomend getting the plating kit it is about $50.00
eviltwincustoms Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Very interesting, Thanks Louie for the picks. I know a bunch of people have been asking about it in the General Section as well. So $50 for the plating kit, isn't bad but what amount of product is used to plate that whole PE you did? Did it take much of the plating solution to do one sheet?
lou s Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 the solutions come in 8oz bottles.i put about a tbsp in a dose cup and when i was done i had enough left over i put it back in the bottle.it has a wond with a swob on the end.you dip it in the solution and just stert rubing the metal over and over and over.it takes about a half hour.i would say that you would have hundreds of applications in a bottle.
futurattraction Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 An alternative to chroming PE parts is, if you can find stuff constructed out of stainless steel or nickel-silver, they can probably be polished to look very similar to chrome.
