Grumpa Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) I think that I have sufficiently figured out the photo posting to be able to post some photos of the '32 Ford that I have posted in "Under Glass". I know that I pretty much put the "cart before the horse", but since I am new to the "Model Cars Magazine" forum, and I did, for the most part, chronicle the build. I figured you guys wouldn't mind seeing some constructions photos. I worked on this build, on and off, over an eighteen month periiod, It was finished in the spring of 2011. It started out as one of the many AMT issues of the '32 Ford. The first three photos deal with the main body modifications and some test ideas. Edited April 17, 2012 by Grumpa
Grumpa Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 The next three photos deal with the interior. I used styrene to scratch build the door frames, dash, front firewall, transmission cover, etc. Brass and aluminun tubing were used for the steering column, with a screw driver for the turn signal lever. Gauges on the dash came from the Model Car Garage - PE kit. The seats were build from wood in an "Andirondack" style. Seat cushions are made using polymer clay with "Scale Hardware" rivets for buttons. Grandt Line Products as well as Tichy Trains, "HO" scale rivets were used and a slot was cut in the head to simulate screw heads. I owe this "torcherous" method to modeler Chuck Doan. The carpeting was stolen from a one inch doll house that I am building for my (she was thirteen when she got this) twenty-eight year old Daughter. she won't miss it.
rmvw guy Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Very nice! Hope to see more, keep 'em comming please.
Grumpa Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 This batch looks at the body and what was done here. The cowl vent was opened with a piece of hammered brass wire and screen added. The chrome window frame was soaked in bleach to remove the chrome and chopped. "MOVE OVER" was painted on some fine screen in reverse so that it would be "right reading" in a rear view mirror. "GRUMPA'S" encompassed several painting steps and ended up being somewhat tedious. The male snaps for the roof cover are Grandt Line, "HO" scale nut and bolt castings with "Scale Hardware" rivets for the female portion. All of the openings, such as the roof and trunk, were shaved to give the edges a scale look. The radiator shroud was opened up and a new radiator from "GM'S" customs on Ebay was added along with a fan. The "Jack Daniels" on the firewall was a label downloaded from the internet. Sized and mounted to a piece of styrene. The arch was just right for across the top of the transmission. The last set of photos will show some test fitting on the frame.
rmvw guy Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Cool! More, more , more. Nice photos, love your details.
Grumpa Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 I hope that you haven't found this too boring! These last photos deal with the body and some test fitting to the frame. Now I'm not the greatest photographer, so I apologize for some of the quality, or lack there of, of all of the photos. Thanks for taking a look and the completed model is in "Under Glass", under the same title.
rmvw guy Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 The photos are great. I still love the old AMT kits, the '32 was one of my first kits I built and I've built a bunch of them. None of them look as nice as yours. Thanks for sharing.
JasonFL Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I saw you post this up in the "under glass" section and I was hoping you were going to figure out how to get the photos up in this section. What a great build, I love all the little details you put into it. Top notch work, inspires my to shift gears and get moving on mine. Welcome to the site
