Brendan, i use the same technique on the bumpers and trim to get that "pitted rust" look. just hold the part back about 2 feet or so, and lightly dust it with dullcoat, and then hit it with rust powders, i use mig pigments, and doc obriens stuff.

for heavier looking rust, shoot on some model master rust (or whatever you prefer to use) and then while it is still wet lightly sprinkle on some baking soda, let it dry, and blow off the excess. thin out your rust color (like you would do a wash) and go back over the bakin soda with it to color it, and then hit it with dullcoat again to seal it, its important to seal it or it will turn white again...

lemme dig up a decent pic of a bumper i did and ill post it.....

cheers

bryan

Bryan I have a rust powder can I mix that with thinner and shoot it through the airbrush?

Just picked up a Monogram '32 Ford today! What you're doing is exactly what my plan is, only much much much better. I don't know that I'll be able to pull off a rusted look, but my first question is: How did you make/source that frame? It's a Z frame correct? I want my rod to be scraping pavement, and the stock frame isn't going to allow that.

Thanks!

William

William I will try and post some pics of the frame, I "Z"ed the frame but kind of unconventionally. I used the stock frame from the kit I cut the frame into 3 individual pieces, I think I may have a stock frame laying around I'll shoot some pics side by side. it takes alot of measuring and making sure everything is leveled and your front end is straight. Mine is pretty ###### low practically touches the surface. My suggestion is always make sure you mock up the car first so you know how low you want it to be and that you don't go to low.

That'd be great! Any steps you can give me? This is the biggest modification I've ever performed to a model car. Also, I'm using the Monogram '32 3-Window, are you as well?

Reworked the plug wiring, used some creativity with shrink tubing and thin boot covers that fit I to the shrink tube after you heat it and it errr.. Shrinks.. Looks good to me.
