ratnasty Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Hello guys how many people bought the 1969 Camaro funny car that The Model King released , only to find out it had hogged out rear wheel wells and there's not much you can do with it (I did) LOL. Well I have doing so research and found out that car was dereived from the AMT 1969 annual kit (AKA the Gene Windfeild Camaro ) which is an expensive kit to obtain. I was able to get my hands on a nice built up and ripped it apart and stripped it . I was able to cut the quarterpanels from the annual kit and graph them into the funny car . I am going to cast them because there are several bodies I want to fix . Here is how I did it with pics Chuck funny hugger camaro AMT stock Camaro where I'm going to cut the stock Camaro stock Camaro cut I laid the stock quarters on the funny car and drew the outline of quarter panel on the funny car so I knew where to cut
ratnasty Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 I cut out the hogged out quarter panel here is what it looks like after the installation of the new quarters this afternoon I will make a mold so I can cast them . the one above is only taped in place . thanks Chuck
AZ Boy Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I've wondered about that myself, Chuck. I always assumed that I'd have to use some styrene and fill those wheel wells in to return it to a more stock appearance. Thanks for the idea!
cobraman Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Nice work. I use a simular method when making a AWB body.
ratnasty Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 I also use the same process when building Pro Stock Vegas. I took a quarter from a junk Bruce Larson Vega and casted it so I could fix the Bill Jenkins Vega and to turn stock Vega kits into pro stocks here are some of those pics
Kanedge Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Nice idea, I like it, seems like an easier way of doing it.
ratnasty Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 (edited) well I got the car all smoothed out and painted , now I'm just waiting on decals from Slixx to do the Kelly Chadwick 1969 Camaro funny car . I also found out that the Model King Camaro has the same wheelbase as the Polar Lights Mustang funny car kit , so a the chassis will come from a donor Mustang kit Chuck Edited May 10, 2012 by ratnasty
