bbowser Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 To celebrate tomorrow's race I thought I'd post some of my Indycars. I haven't done many of these but there are more in the stash. First is 'Ole Calhoun, Parnelli won in 1963 in this car. From a vintage kit I got at a car show, the decals fell apart when I tried them. Will be ordering some from Indycals at some point to finish. Not sure about this one, built from a Monogram kit, from the early '90's Last but not least, the turbine car of Andy Granitelli (sp?) from I believe 1968. He came back with the wedge car after they legislated the original out in '67. I saw these run in person, a real trip as they 'whooshed' past compared to the other cars roar. I hope everyone enjoys the race!
Craig Irwin Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Very cool cars from back when Indy was still THE race.
rmvw guy Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 (edited) Thanks for posting these, all nice examples. I live too close to the track and everything is blacked out in our area. I crave anything Indy right now, I went to the race for over 30 years and just can't do it any longer. Tickets I used went from $60 to $185 the last year we attended and the crowd just keeps getting crazier, which was OK when I was young. LOL Oh, and I was there in '67 as a 16 year old kid and saw the "Wooshmobile". I took the extreme ride with Mario last year as a 60th birthday gift from my kids, what a thrill! I grew up in Ohio and used to go with my dad and uncles to time trials every year in the 60's, never the race though. The era when the front engined Offy roadsters were still competitive before Jim Clark and Lotus changed things forever. I can't believe it's blacked out there, what a bummer!
