carchub Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Woo! Great weathering man! That gunk on the frame, those fenders, the gas tank, awesome! I especially like the right fender, I've been trying to achieve that "thin" rust look on rounded parts, I've got to try it. Maybe I'll use the left over fenders of my '32 to practice on. I'd love some criticism from you on my model by the way =) Keep it up man!
bryan_m Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 thanks guys!! carhub, to get that this rust i put table salt on the primer before i shoot the top color, the let it all dry and scrub it off with a toohbrush. is your build posted? ill check it out.... cheers bryan
Dr. Cranky Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 That's the process, all right, and it's one of my favorite techniques to use. Thanks, and keep the eye candy coming.
bryan_m Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 you bet cranky! no eye candy tonight tho, i went back to work today, after a year of sittin on my butt! put in 12 hours and im beat.... carhub, when i get a chance, i will do a tutorial on the salt technique, unless cranky has one done already? cranky? bryan

JasonFL Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 thanky cranky! hey did you notice my new avatar? too funny man! you gotta love walt! cheers B lol I just noticed it, pretty sweet. Can't wait for the season to begin. Your build is looking great btw, I love how you did that grill. One day I'll have to attempt the rust look.
TedsModeling Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Wow - Just found this build. Great job and thanks for explaining your techniques. Good photo job, too. I'm following this one.
carchub Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I'm familiar with the salt technique =) The only thing different you said is taking it off with the toothbrush. I'm thinking by doing that it sands the top coat paint a little smoother and makes it look that way. I usually use my thumbnail and it comes off a little chunkier (which is good, but I like a little variation). =D And yeah I need to post more progress on my thread to bump it, but it's the '32 5 window red/white/black thing. Still waiting to see more of your build!
bryan_m Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 thanks guys!! hopefully i can get something done tonight........stay tuned Bryan
