camaroman Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I've been digging through the stash lately and ran across an orphan kit (no box). I decided to move it to the bench. It's the AMT 50 Ford Convertible. After finding a suitable restomod type car to replicate, I got a start on it today. It was not happy with the whole "Hole In the Engine" thing so I when back to the stash for a better engine. I was searching for a Revell Kit to pull the engine from when I found an opened AMT 49' Ford Club Coupe. Finally my question... What is the optional custom engine in the '49 kit supposed to be???
Guest Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 The optional engine is a Cadillac. I think it's a 354,but I could be wrong on that.
Chuck Most Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 The optional engine is a Cadillac. I think it's a 354,but I could be wrong on that. It is a Cadillac for sure. I'm not sure if it is supposed to represent the earlier one-piece block/bellhousing (331 ci) or the later block with separate bellhousing (365/390).
camaroman Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 It has bolt detail molded in the bell housing where it would be appropriate for a seperate bell housing... Thanks Guys! I am going to use the Flattie block (no hole) from the '49 kit every thing else from the '50. The detail is much better in that kit engine.
rmvw guy Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 You cn always plug the hole in the engine block, an old trick I know.
Jairus Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 The '50 is a much better kit in my opinion and I have built both. Lots more custom parts in the '50 and it was one of those that Bud Anderson had a hand in too! Plugging the hole is super easy with a little epoxy putty. But... sourcing another is easy too.
camaroman Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 Never though of epoxy to fill the engine hole ... Thanks for the tip! I am going to proceed with the swap for this one though!
