Galant409VR4 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Hey New here and have some newbie questions. First Its been awile sence Ive build a model and my question is what do I need to build a model kit? I just picked up laquer testers starter kit with sand paper , brushes , glue and 12 laquer colors. I also just picked up a exacto set and model masters liquid cement. Any advice on were to get the items needed cheeper or anything like that would help too thanks Dan
Jantrix Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 A good gap filling CA glue (superglue) is yer best pal. A set of needle files. Sanding sticks from your local beauty supply store. Look around at your local Harbor Freight for tools and clanps and stuff, your local Dollar Store for plastic containers and ziplocks and stuff.
jamesG Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 this site is the best tool you could have. if you get to a point with a build where you don't know how to do something just ask theres great folks here that can tell you how, what ,and where to get the job done. you will need a pinvise {kind of a small manual drill} and small drill dits (lowes in dremel section)for things like wiring engines.
91blaze Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 If you have old electronics you can steal the small gauge wires out of them for spark plug wires.
Galant409VR4 Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 Thanks guys Just got back from scale model supply in Minneapolis MN. Picked up some modeling puddy and some testers liquid glue. Question do most of you guys airbrush most of your parts or do you just hand brush or use a can of paint?
91blaze Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 (edited) Most guys here airbrush, but I get pretty good results with a can. I use brush paint for smaller pieces and to add details. Edited June 29, 2012 by 91blaze
mnwildpunk Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Elmers glue for clear plastic parts don't use testor cement or super glue on clear parts!! You may already know this but that's my 2 cents
