vintagestang Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I bought the Revell '57 Chevy Bel Air kit to build a replica of my dads. The problem is his was a 210. How do I remove the window mouldings on the Bel Air? How do I modify the fin spears to be the 210's?
Jantrix Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Try some sanding sticks from your local beauty supply store. Sand slowly and carefully.
2002p51 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 The Revell Black Widow kit is a 150 and has the correct fender spears for your 210.
vintagestang Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 Thanks. I didn't think about that and I was wanting to build that kit as a normal stock car. Plus my local Atwoods has it in stock for $14-$15.
Jantrix Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I'm seeing two different side trims when I do a Google search for 210's. The top of the rear fender speaps are shorter, but that is easily fixed. A pic of your dads 1:1 would really help us help you.
2002p51 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 What two are you seeing? They should all look like this.
Jantrix Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) That's what I thought, but I spotted some with '55 trim. So the Revell Black Widow would not work. Edited June 28, 2012 by Jantrix
2002p51 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I think what you're seeing as "55 trim" is really a '57 150. That's what the Black Widow is. The spears on top of the fenders are the same for the 150 and 210 so they would work for the OP's project. Here's a '57 150.
vintagestang Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 Here is the only picture I have of my dad's 57 Chevy 210:
2002p51 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 In all honesty Patrick, if I were building this car, I would leave the molded in trim around the windows of the Bel Air and just paint over it as if it wasn't there. The amount of work involved to remove it vs. the benefit of how it would look after, balanced by the potential for messing it up would make me want to take the easy way out. But then I'm the original lazy modeler so take that into account. Also, it's hard to be sure from that photo, but it looks like the car had those three little fake louvers that Bel Airs had on the front fender. So be sure not to remove them from your Bel Air base kit. (They were not on 210s or 150s)
vintagestang Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 I think my dad bought those fake louvers because he liked them.
